The ceremony was beautifulโ As expected. Hal had been waiting for this day for years. But Alek had been waiting for this day for his entire life. The only thing more exciting than his own wedding day was his best friendโs. His brother had been the most important person in his life from the time they were toddlers. If Alekโs personality could be split into parts, it would be one part music, one part romance and one part Halโs best friend. Thatโs just how it was; how itโd always been. Everyone in the family joked about it. How Alek would be the first one to cry at Halโs wedding. They were right, of course. But in his defense, he wasnโt just watching his brotherโs wedding. He was watching his best friendโs wedding as well. Two people he cared for more than life were vowing to spend their lives together. It was beautiful. It was perfect. It was better than heโd ever hoped.
By the time the ceremony ended, Alek was already stressing out about his speech. This was his moment. In every romance movie, thereโs always the best friend who makes the funny yet emotional speech. But Alek didnโt exactly consider himself funny. He was a softie, a mush of emotions. He couldnโt joke about Gen or Hal because in his mindโ They were perfect. This speech was something heโd been writing since he was eleven. Yet, even now, even ten minutes before the big moment, he found himself re-writing it in one of the dressing rooms.ย โMy best friendโ My brother. Myโฆ Hey guys. Did you know- Uhm. Sup dudes, does anyoneโ No.โ He mumbled the intros under his breath up until he heard the door squeak. His eyes widened, hoping to god it wasnโt time. Thankfully, his prayers were answered when Hal walked in.ย โDude! What are you doing in here? Whereโs Gen?โ
ย ย ย with all the minutes there are in a day, hal firmly believes that it should be a lot easier to get five of them to himself. just five.ย he doesnโt feel like itโs asking for too much, but thereโs always an espn reporter, or his coach, or his teammates, or his brothers. thereโs always something that absolutely cannot wait for five minutes. just five. he doesnโt mind as much on his wedding day, perhaps because he wants to spend every single moment of it with gen. he hasnโt been able to take his eyes off of her since he saw her walking down the aisle, and everyone else in attendance ( so, basically, everyone they know ) seemed to be similarly captivated by her. genesis had designed a wedding where she was the star, and hal didnโt mind it one bit. as long as she was happy, and it looked like she was when he last saw her entertaining a huge group of their guests who were all complimenting her ( second ) dress and her makeup and her hair and the decorations. ย ย ย hal tiptoed out of the reception hall without being noticed or flagged down by a single attendee. he swapped out his glass of champagne for whiskey ( not his first choice, but the open bar unsurprisingly didnโt have his favorite canadian imported beer ) and wandered around the castle until he found the room where hal and his groomsmen had gotten dressed for the ceremony.ย โdude,โ hal brightened as he nudged open the door and saw his brother with a pen and paper in hand.ย โgen is...getting a ton of attention.โ he was still smiling as he said it, glad that she was getting all of her recognition and compliments and gushing. โso iโm having a drink and chilling out for a few minutes.โ hal let out a sigh as he flopped onto one of the chairs in the room and tugged at his tie to loosen it a bit ( but not so much that it wouldnโt be a quick fix when he needed to return to the reception and get photographed again ).ย โwhatโs up?โ he wondered, glancing over at alek with a lifted brow. it was the first chance he had gotten to have an actual conversation with his best man all day.
