THE COMPARISON OF ENVY TO THAT OF A PREDATOR IS AN ACCURATE ASSESSMENT ; there is the wrong thought that the sin is merely an instigator that flees the scene once the seeds of chaos have been planted - what a stupid little thought ( born out of, they are sure, the idea that they shift in order to hide - no, they shift in order to hunt ). the kill is only part of the fun, it is the chase that goes underappreciated - the tracking of one's prey, the observing of their every move, the closing distance until the final strike. yes, envy enjoys it all, && it is that enjoyment which makes them dangerous - they like to play with their prey before ending things. maes hughes is no different from anyone else. perhaps he might think otherwise, might even have the balls to argue if he were told, but envy knows better ; all these humans are the same. pathetic little creatures who fall limp when fangs sink proper into throat. it isn't quite time to end things yet. no, that would be far too disappointing, && envy aims to please ( mostly themselves ). the form they've taken is smaller than they usually are, the body of a child, brown hair falling in curls across slender shoulders && those eyes, those poor red eyes, teary && wet. a lost child wailing for their mom, placed perfectly in the path of the military man. oh, but of course envy would do their proper research - they know the soft spot lieutenant colonel has for children, especially his own. how convenient it is that the form envy takes now almost looks like her. the voice that comes from the child's mouth is shrill, panicked, wobbly with tears, && only pauses on the approach of the prey man. it is then that the personality shifts into something shy, nervous. their hands wring together, nails pinching at skin like a bad habit.  ❝ i-i can't find my mommy. ❞

THE BODY STRETCHES && COLLAPSES UPON ITSELF, flashes of red lightning following shifting form; a human no longer, transformed / transfixed into a new state, one that stands upon four paws with jet black fur. something like a cat, but not quite - look too long && one will notice the odd proportions, the long fangs that stick out past closed mouth, the tail that moves more like liquid ink than skin upon bone. not that it stays still for an observation to be had; it is moving within the shadows, here one moment, gone the next, as if it were a shadow itself. a little trick learned from a past sibling, it would seem. violet eyes peer out from the darkness at the new change of scenery, outdoors turned into the warmth of an inner abode, && the creature walks out into the light without concern. its nose sniffs the air, but that is the only movement that shows any sign of breathing - the chest remains motionless otherwise. ears prickle at the noise of a door opening && closing, approaching footsteps causing the cat to pause before jumping up unto a wooden table. && there it waits the approach of the inhabitant, motionless other than that ink-like tail; swaying, swaying, swaying.
