it  was  ironic  that  somehow  they  ended  up  in  the  same  hemisphere  because  while  nick  found  it  entertaining  messing  with  jessie  ,  he  was  relatively  unmemorable  to  him  .  nick  didn't  care  about  anyone  enough  to  follow  them  anywhere   (   okay  ,  maybe  there  was  one  person  )  ,  never  mind  all  the  way  to  chile  just  to  play  some  kind  of  long  term  mind  game  .  no  ,  it  was  more  than  when  jessie  appeared  then  nick  was  aware  he  could  get  his  vengeance  over  his  orange  juice  .  that  was  all  .  "  yes  .  you're  actually  right  ⦠ i  followed  you  all  the  way  here  because  i'm  so  obsessed  with  you  .  i  actualised  my  long  term  life  goal  :  following  you  around  because  you  are  just  that  important  to  not  just  me  but  the  entire  universe  .  "
to  be  chosen  ⦠ a  sentiment  that  they  both  longed  for  in  different  ways  .  star  ,  unable  to  see  anything  that  was  going  on  because  really  ,  she  didn't  believe  that  she  was  a  person  who  was  chosen  .  jessie  following  her  to  the  ends  of  the  earth  or  just  chile  hadn't  even  occurred  to  her  as  a  gesture  ,  presence  just  another  chance  to  continue  their  hot  and  cold  interactions  .  sipping  on  her  wine  ,  a  refreshing  early  afternoon  moment  ,  "  wow  ,  you're  so  obsessed  with  me  ⦠ you  really  believe  in  my  abilities  ,  "  whether  it  was  meant  as  a  compliment  or  not  ,  there  was  no  questioning  that  star  found  a  way  to  create  chaos  and  carnage  even  when  she  didn't  mean  to  .  when  you  grow  up  in  chaos  ,  striving  for  popularity  and  meaning  in  the  world  then  it  led  to  a  lack  of  boundaries  and  a  deep  desire  to  be  at  the  centre  of  things  .  star  and  jessie  had  a  lot  in  common  ,  self  centred  in  so  many  ways  but  if  you  looked  very  closely  then  maybe  it  was  star  who  had  the  softer  heart  ⦠ who  felt  the  most  remorse  and  guilt  for  the  bad  person  she  really  thought  she  was  .  she  didn't  hate  herself  but  she  didn't  think  she  could  be  better  ,  either  .  putting  the  wine  glass  on  the  coffee  table  as  she  leaned  forwards  ,  a  semi  serious  expression  as  she  somewhat  corners  him  ,  arm  leaning  beside  his  shoulder  ,  "  i  think  you  need  to  ask  yourself  why  haven't  you  been  flirting  with  people  ?  i'm  starting  to  think  that  you  don't  have  it  anymore  ⦠ you  left  your  hoe  side  in  hollywood  ,  "  she  teases  ,  dramatic  and  baiting  as  her  nose  wrinkles  ,  "  have  you  lost  your  touch  ?  "
"  um  ,  it's  watta - burger  ,  "  although  it  probably  sounded  exactly  the  same  said  aloud  ,  the  two  of  them  rarely  saw  eye  to  eye  about  anything  .  rather  than  questioning  why  jessie  was  in  her  apartment  ,  used  to  the  lives  they  had  led  on  the  road  like  two  homeless  hoes  who  spent  all  their  time  hanging  out  with  other  people  and  avoiding  the  complications  of  having  to  travel  around  ⦠ she  just  accepted  his  presence  .  fridge  opening  as  she  yanked  out  a  wine  in  the  box  and  cranking  the  tap  until  it  worked  ,  wine  glass  filling  ,  "  hmmm  ,  "  she  spoke  ,  liquid  splashing  and  making  small  crimson  puddles  that  went  ignored  as  she  whips  it  off  and  takes  her  wine  into  the  joined  living  area  .  "  it's  okay  ⦠ not  enough  parties  .  i'm  going  to  run  out  of  people  to  flirt  with  ,  "  not  returning  the  courtesy  of  the  question  ,  mainly  wanting  to  irritate  him  because  even  though  she  never  seemed  to  consider  his  real  feelings  for  her  ,  she  knew  exactly  how  to  get  on  his  nerves  .
both hands crammed into the front pockets of his jeans, drew digs around for one of the last few gummy worms out of the bag that he picked up back at the airport in new york. "huh ? " he mutters, but shakes his head as his brain processes jessie's question, "oh, no, she dumped me." he tries not to wince at the discovery that ' dumped ' is an uncomfortably trash - adjacent word to use when referring to oneself. ( especially when it feels like such a perfect description for what happened to him. ) "and, we're both here now anyway, so the whole ' who left who ' thing might not even ā don't you hate losing your favorite jacket ? pants pockets are not the optimal pockets for extra candy storage. this is a jacket pocket job." though he had started out addressing jessie, drew was most definitely muttering that final complaint to himself. he wrenches his hands from his pockets and clapped them over his ears, then kneels down and wriggles them beneath the elastic of his socks. "i'm out of gummy worms," he declares to jessie, satisfied that his conclusion was accurate after checking all of his usual storage crevices. "that's preposterous as fuck. it was the value size pack. that's almost two pounds of gummy worms. do i look like i'm roughly 3% artificial worm to you ? " drew asks, looking expectantly at jessie.
