He is, admittedly, lighting other candles as well. Several on behalf of a loved one (they may not have been HIS family, but it still seemed disrespectful not to), & one for his fallen love friend whom he’d never had a chance to light one for since the day he was imprisoned & up until now.

He can’t uphold the tradition quite the same in a space ship, but it’s too important for him NOT to do so. Besides, he’s sure she’d understand. She’d probably be grateful that he’d take the time to honour her this way at all. & of course, how couldn’t he? It’d be disrespectful for the typical person - but for someone who’d given up so much? Pure cruelty.

He may not be able to let the smoke leave since he can’t open the windows, but at the very least he’ll keep her candle lit until the wax runs out.

He's not a prying dad, never has been, but there's still a little part of him that's... curious about his son's life. So like any other dad, Avocato coughs upon approaching his son. It's far from cool, but he's trying; ' so --- uh... how's your --- love life going?' Out of fear that Gary might have taught his son some of his tricks, he's quick to follow up; ' Gary hasn't given you any tips, has he?'

“I- what?” he said at the initial inquiry, sounding taken aback by it. It just seemed so- RANDOM. & out of the blue. & almost a little too personal for his liking. Why was he asking? He hated to seem suspicious of his own dad’s question, but-

“Oh.” That was why he was asking. Okay. “Uh- I mean, he has. Kind of. I guess. But, um- I mean, I haven’t actually followed any of it, I’m not...really interested in any of that right now.”
