"Penny for your thoughts? -- Try not to take that idiom literally, though; we're running low on tips today. "
"Oh, this? I decked a guy. Pretty sure his jaw was built from fuckinâ steel, which explains why my fist is as swollen as Bill Gatesâ bank account, but itâs whatever, man. He deserved it - misogyny is so 1954.â Natalia tapped a red pencil in no particular rhythm on the order pad, her gaze trailing to the clock as she began to calculate how much time she had remaining until her shift ended. Twelve minutes. God, she needed a cigarette. The sound of the customer clearing their throat rapidly brought her back to the present. âRight, shit, sorry. And I should have said this first, so if my boss asks, I totally did-â Her voice lowered and became monotone. â-Welcome to Footprints, Iâm Natalia, Iâll be your server today, yadda-yadda. You know the drill.â With that said, she positioned her pencil in prime writing position and her tone returned to normal, though she still managed to express her utter disinterest. âWhat can I get you? Word of advice: decide quickly and donât pinch my ass when I turn around if you donât want me to spit in your food.âÂ
Mara opened her mouth to speak, found that nothing came out, so closed it. The next time she opened it she seemed to be able to manage a "You think I'd..." Now apparently having some hold on herself, the brunette shook her head vigorously. "I'm not sure what you see exactly when you see me, but someone who assaults a worker is not me."
Then she remembered the first part of her 'advice' and so trained her eyes to the menu before her. With eyes scanning over it, Mara soon realised she wasn't really taking any of it in-- she was just reading words. Before the woman had the chance to be as abrupt and blunt as she had been seconds prior to, Mara interjected, "Look, it's not that I can't find anything I want to eat I'm just..." It sounded stupid. "Under pressure." In Mara's defense, this woman did just admit to hitting some guy, even if she had a good excuse.
(Mara) [ Txt. ] Hey Juliet, the storm's pretty rough right now. Just wondering if you're okay?? xx
[Text]: Hey!! Iâm fine. Coffee and power withdrawals asideâŠ. :(
[Text]: Are you okay??
[ Txt. ] Of course I'm okay.
[ Txt. ] Don't worry, when the storm's over you can have both of those with me if you're interested c:
"You. I get this weird feeling that youâre following me or something."
"Well, there is a reason behind my fast talking and general in-a-rush demeanour. My life is quite busy. But sure, on top of running a 12 hour business and the other every-day stresses of life, I probably do have time for stalking of nice-looking men." Nice-looking men? Put a bag over my head, please and thanks.
"Anyway, coffee? I was bringing it for a friend but I suppose she's out."
"Iâm exhaustedâŠ"
"Quite convenient, me owning a coffee shop, then, isn't it?"

[ Txt. ] Oh!!!! Well, good I'm glad you're okay. And thanks! Never knew befriending you would bring in all the business :p
( Mara. ) [Txt.] Hey, is everything alright Juliet?
[Text]: Um⊠yeah? Fine, why?
[ Txt. ] Oh nothing... Just that I thought you didn't like tea?
There was a frustrated sigh as Eden bent down to scoop up her slightly damp folder into her arms, wiping at the water with her sleeve. âLook Iâm sorry Iâm just⊠Itâs been a rough day, I shouldnât snap.â
"Hey, don't worry about it. They happen to the best of us. Um... I don't mind helping you out if you need anything." She gestured to the folder, then added, "Even just a drink-- coffee drink, that is; I own a cafe."
"Iâll definitely remind you." Ivy smiled, leaning her elbows up on the counter as she stirred her coffee idly.
"Is everything alright?" Mara asked, eyes on the hot drink.
"Because adding cream and sugar to my coffee is an abomination,â she says as her hand defensively covered the mug and pulled it away from Mara.
"And you are a tad overdramatic, dear." It had Mara laughing and shaking her head as she backed off with two of the best additions to coffee in each hand. "You're also missing out-- majorly."
The young woman raised an eyebrow, snorting slightly indignantly as she bent down to scoop up her folder. âThat doesnât excuse that my project is ruined.â
Mara frowned out of confusion. "Wait, that's just a folder. It missed the rain puddle and I don't think... How is it ruined?" Of course, if that was the case, Mara would offer her services.
"Fuck all the way off."
Mara's eyes were wider than usual. "Sorry? I mean, I did say sorry when I ran into you, didn't I? Sorry. Just in case."
"No."
"And why not?"
Logan hung up out of anger and tossed the phone on to the table. The noise the girl made was enough to catch his attention and he sighed heavily. âYes?â
Mara should have flinched, taken a step back or at least blinked at his hard attitude like most twenty-four year old women would do. Instead, she kept a straight face, her lips tempting a friendly smile, but eyebrows slightly furrowed-- she was the last thing from intimated. "Just a friendly reminder that this is a cafe, a cafe which is welcoming to everyone-- including children, who it is easy to intimidate. Okay?" She didn't trust this guy when she met him a few nights before and she definitely didn't trust him now.
