one of the best heartwarming scenes between Zuko and Iroh. The fact that Zuko is truly repentant and Iroh is unconditionally forgiving despite everything he’s endured. And of course, they can make you cry one moment and laugh in the next.

Notice the scene begins with Iroh facing away from Zuko, his face obscured as he suits cross-legged across the room. This is how we’ve seen Iroh for all of Season 3 up until this point, turned away and silent while Zuko monologues and voices his frustrations with his situation. However, these monologues always end with Zuko snapping and insulting Iroh before storming out.

This time is different. There are no bars between them. In past scenes, the angles were drawn so that even though Iroh was the one incarcerated, it was clear that Zuko was the real prisoner in the Fire Nation. Now, the air between them is clear; Zuko has been freed.

Zuko comes not asking for Iroh’s help, but his forgiveness. And for the first time since Book 2, we see Iroh turn around and face his nephew– and the first thing he does is embrace him.

And then I start crying because an abused kid who’s only ever known the false love of a narcissistic parent feels, for the first time, the unconditional love of a true father.
