“Oh, I hope he’s alright. I was just...coming here to ask for your number, actually. My friend, the one in the-” she turns to where they had been sitting, but was only met with an empty table, the remnants of breakfast still upon it, “Or was in the yellow coat, and decided to ditch me. I’m sorry for wasting your time.”

Westley: I have no clue what I'm doing.

Rowan: I feel like your wife would advise you not to text strangers asking them to come over, because that's a whole new world of trouble.

Rowan: What do you need help with? Like knowing what to put where, or color schemes, or...?

“Can you hold this?” Without much time to give the other a chance to answer, Phoebe was holding her hand out, fist balled up. She slowly opened her hand into the person’s palm, but then tangled their fingers together, slipping her hand into the others. She held up their hands with a grin. “I saw a video where someone did that. Isn’t it cute?”

Rowan felt a grin spread across her face, in place of her previous confusion, as Phoebe's hand entwined with hers. “That’s so cute, oh my gosh.”

“It’s pretty unrelated, but have you seen that compilation of baby’s faces as they go through tunnels? It’s so cute, I laughed so hard I had to pause the video and take a breather before being able to continue.”

Estrella gripped the ceramic mug tightly as her gaze fell upon the other person and stayed there. “Real talk for a second here, please. How do I say no to someone firmly while getting my point across clearly but not alienating them as a customer and a friend?” The raven haired woman took another sip of the life-giving brew at her finger-tips before continuing. “I’m a people pleaser for God’s sake. I don’t know what to do.”

“Ahm, well...” Considering that Rowan’s social life had been at about a one for over a decade, she wasn’t very good at giving advice in terms of dealing with people. Technical corrections for dance? Piece of cake. How to make food that was both good and vegetarian? She was your girl. How to gently reject someone...not so much. “Say that you’re flattered but you’re just not in the proper place in your life for anything other than a platonic relationship?”

Patterson Family Tree

Sofia Angelica Patterson (54)- Mother. Sofia and Rowan have always been close. Not best friends or anything like how most little girls describe their mothers, but close enough. She’s always supported her daughter’s dream of becoming a prima, despite how it often takes her away from home, and often sends Ro care packages with photos, blankets, and food from home. At the moment, she’s disappointed that Rowan couldn’t make it for Thanksgiving, and that they couldn’t go and visit her, but is attempting to be optimistic for a visit during Hanukkah. 

Rowan Elizabeth Patterson (24)

Daniel James Patterson (17)- Brother. DJ and Ro were thick as thieves as children, despite the seven year age gap. He idolized his big sister, and she adored her little brother, and would always write to eachother when Rowan would go away to ballet camp. This all changed when Rowan was eighteen. Suddenly, she was whisked away to her apprenticeship, and there was hardly any time to write to her baby brother anymore, maybe getting out one letter every two weeks if she was lucky. And eventually, he grew to resent her for it. She’s trying to make amends, but he doesn’t want to hear it, especially as she wasn’t able to make it for Thanksgiving this year. Again. 

Richard Josiah Patterson (53)- Father. Rowan wasn’t necessarily her “Daddy’s Little Girl”. More like her father’s little dude. Despite her occupation being considered ‘feminine’, Ro and her father have bonded over fixing cars since she was a kid. They’ve even got a ‘super secret handshake’ they came up with nearly two decades ago, and have a series of inside jokes that will cause the pair to fall into hysterics if someone accidentally makes a reference. He, like his wife, is both supportive of his daughter’s dreams, and also sad that she couldn’t make it home. But he’s sure she can swing by after Christmas, once Nutcracker season has ended. Hopefully.

“That might have been too much excitement for one day though. I would have started smaller, like a trip to the petting zoo or the library. And then from there you can work your way up to Black Friday shopper. See, I would have gone with Thoreau as an example or being a hermit but your example was more… colorful.”

“Go big or go home? Do we even have a petting zoo? Besides, not to sound like a crazy PETA member, but I refuse to give money to an establishment that mistreats animals. Most petting zoos don’t feed their animals before allowing people in as they ‘don’t want to make a mess in front of the kids’ and a majority of their equipment is ill-fitting so it chaffs their skin as their forced to walk around in circles for hours on end. It’s cruel.”

“See, I feel like Thoreau wouldn’t be an appropriate example, as I just...can’t write to save my life. I’m pretty sure the only reason I survived high school is because my teachers pitied me. Would I even be considered a hermit? I mean, I’m not a recluse because of religion or anything, I just...never really have time to do things. Whereas with Edward Scissorhands, I find a guy who constantly tries to help but just ends up making things worse is much more appropriate.”

“… That could have been my mom. She gets very intense when there’s a sale.”

“Well if it was, I hope she enjoys it.” Rowan couldn’t help but let out a laugh, “I’ll figure something else out for my mom, it’s fine. At least there’s still time for that, I have no idea what I’m going to do for my younger relatives for Hanukkah.”

“Holidays are way more stressful than they should be.”

“That’s why I don’t go. I’m in no way an assertive enough person for Black Friday. I prefer safely shopping online if there’s anything I really need. Of course then I still get confused, but frustrated at technology sounds better than beaned with an umbrella.”

“The bruises on my shoulder can attest to that. I was trying not to be a recluse, as all I ever do is work, home, repeat, but at this point, I’m willing to just become Edward Scissorhands and just live in a house atop a hill. Minus the scissors. And accidental murder. And- Okay, maybe that wasn’t  the best example.”

“Black Friday? So not worth it. Seriously, a lady repeatedly hit e with an umbrella because we reached for the same crock pot, like seriously, there is no need for violence.”

“oh, how typical,” she murmurs in exasperation. alicia had been about to head home from the coffee shop she studies in when a stranger bumped into her, scattering her neat, color-coded notes along the sidewalk. her cheeks burn in embarrassment as she kneels to gather them, only half-aware that she’s taking up way too much space in the walkway.

at least rehearsal had been postponed: there had been an incident with the lights and, as it was a tech rehearsal and they couldn’t exactly do tech without the lights. she’d need to go through her routine later, and work on the technical notes she had received yesterday, but for now, she was free as...the brightly colored paper on the floor in front of her. 

rowan looked ahead to see the blonde frantically picking up notes before they were blown away, and quickly bent down to snatch up the paper, before moving towards the girl and helping her gather the pages, “at least it isn’t raining. please let me not have jinxed anything by saying that.”
