“Alright, alright,” Evan said, taking the hairbrush from her but still giving her a quizzical glance. “But I have one question before we start…. We have a karaoke machine, why are we using hairbrushes? Not that m complaining or anything, I’m just saying.”

“Okay, first of all, can you look a little more excited, please? This is fun! We’re having fun.” Phoebe raised a teasing eyebrow at the other, before moving over to her phone with a hop in her step thanks to his agreement. “Unless you brought it with you, that’s totally not here, and sometimes hairbrushes are the best microphones! Now... do you know Bennie and the Jets?”

“Do they have the speed dating thing running tonight? I thought that was a pretty specific thing,” he wondered, ordering a beer instead of his usual wine. He didn’t even thank the bartender as he took the bottle, immediately taking a drink. “But I’m not really looking for a date. Confidence isn’t the problem. I could end this night with any number of hookups if I wanted. That’s never been a challenge.”

“Oh. Right,” Phoebe said, her shoulders falling a bit in defeat. Though she knew there was nothing particularly special she could do to make him feel at all better, she still wanted to be there for him. Seth was one of her closest friends, despite their few bumps, and with Oliver disappearing for however long again, Phoebe felt more inclined to give them both something of a best friendship for the time being. She knew it wouldn’t be easy, and that this was terrible timing, but she was pretty sure a good way to bond with people is to be there to help them through rough times. “Right,” Phoebe said, pulling her shoulders up and down. “Is that what you want to do? End the night hooking up with someone? Because I can help you with that. Or, at least, you know, weeding your way to the girls who won’t stalk you after. I could be your wing man, or whatever... not that I advise sleeping with people just to get your mind off something, but... whatever you feel like doing, I’m all for it. Unless it’s - you know, it’s bad. Or could land you in jail. Or a grave.... anything else!”

“Really? Well, I think you’re doing a swell job,” Phoebe said, offering an encouraging smile. “With the whole talking to people thing, I mean. Right now. You’re doing great! The best advice I can give you is when you’re at a loss, ask a question! Or, tell a story! Some people aren’t as into the story idea, though. Especially if they’re inappropriate, but... eh.”

Lisette’s eyebrows shot upward and she gave Phoebe a deadly look. “Oh, absolutely not,” she adamantly refused and even took a step backward. “I don’t sing. Not in front of people anyway, unless I’m drunk. The shower and the car—that’s about it and I don’t even drive anymore so the shower head is the only audience member. No.”

“Oh, come on, what are you afraid of?” Phoebe raised an eyebrow, looking around the apartment before shrugging her shoulders up and down. “I don’t see anyone here who’s gonna judge you! Okay, maybe Pawdrey, but he judges everyone, so I’m not sure if your singing would even change much!” Phoebe nodded enthusiastically. “I’ll even let you pick the song!”

"Okay, for this next song,” Phoebe started, speaking into the end of her hairbrush, “I’m gonna need a partner.” She raised her eyebrows, looking at the only other person in her apartment, and over to her cat. “Sadly, this is not Meow Mix, so only one of you can really take on the role.” Glancing around her apartment, she ran over to her desk, grabbing her comb and offering it to the other. “Please?”

“If I remember anything from this night, then it’s a failure,” he replied, actually serious in the comment. Glancing around at the place, Seth only dimly remembered that and he was sure he would have completely put it out of his mind if it wasn’t for her bringing it up. “I think you’re right… maybe we ought to try that again. A few drinks in and I think I could completely forget about any standards whatsoever.”

“Oh,” Phoebe said, crinkling her nose before lifting her own drink to her lips. “Well, then... why don’t we?” She shrugged her shoulders, glancing around the bar. “What’s the harm, right? And seeing people with way worse lives than you should be a good confidence boost, right? It could be fun?” She shrugged. “Moping around can only fix so much. Maybe you need to just... put yourself out there for the night, and I can do it with you! Not - you know... you know what I mean.”

“They do?” she asked, breathing an over dramatic sigh of relief. “It does make me feel better. Wait, you looked like what?” she asked curiously, not even considering the fact that it was none of her business. “I don’t know! Apparently it’s a really common dream to have which is.. weird. It’s kind of a nightmare really, who wants to go around without any teeth? It might be” she shrugged, still not disregarding the idea of deeper meanings behind dreams. “I just think it’s interesting to consider that they do mean something. Far more interesting than them just being totally random at least. I like to think we’re smarter than that”

“I may or may not... have looked like you? It’s been a little while, so it’s a little blurry, but I’m pretty sure I had your face?” She admitted, slumped over and peaking up from under her eyelashes at the other girl. “Hopefully that doesn’t sound too creepy. You do have a very dream worthy face! And I was very happy to have it in my dream. Promise.” She offered a small smile after that, though the mention of teeth falling out had it disappearing again. “Ew,” she said lamely, crinkling her nose up. “Though, I mean, dentures seem pretty cool to have! And you gotta get rid of all your real teeth for that... right?” Phoebe shrugged her shoulder. “I don’t know. I try not to look too deep into stuff, you know? I get a headache.”

At first Zoey just nodded and went back to her tea but then she looked up again to see that Phoebe was still looking at her and shifted uncomfortably. “Are you just going to keep staring like some kind of creep or what? That’s somehow more disturbing than listening to you talk.”

Phoebe looked over at Zoey, her excitement fading away before giving a slow nod. “Okay, I get it,” she said, taking a deep breath. “Surprisingly, I can get the hint when enough is enough. I like you, Zoey. I really do! I would love to be friends with you, but you’re never going to want to be friends with me, and... I’m going to have to deal with that, but I don’t wanna bug you anymore. So, I’m sorry. For everything that I’ve done to annoy you. Really! I’m sorry for pushing limits, and not understanding you, and now I’m going to leave you alone, for good. It was great... knowing you, and maybe one day, or in another... universe, or something, we’ll be friends, and that’s good enough for me.”

Case and point” Keira brushed off her coat, reminding herself to at least attempt to be polite. “Hey” Keira forced a smile onto her lips. “I’m excellent. A little hungover and extremely tired but excellent. Yourself?”

“That’s why I probably run into people a lot. Like, all the time, actually. I can’t win either way,” she said with a small shrug, adjusting her dress and looking up at Keira with a grin. “Oh, that’s good! Not the hungover or tired part, of course,” she said, sending her a look of sympathy before nodding her head a bit. “I’m good! There have been a few ups and downs, but after a little... thinking I’ve decided that the best way to get over things is to put yourself out there and take chances! So, that’s what I’m trying to do. Take more chances. Don’t wanna get too boring,” she said, crinkling her nose a bit at the idea. “I - do you like coffee? I could buy you one. You know, for almost knocking you over.”

“Clearly yes, that was the original intent of downloading that song was to use it for your ringtone.” She’d looked up to Phoebe with a smile, offering the other a playful wink. “Too cute to be killed? I suppose that is fitting but, I think my definition of cute isn’t as liberal as yours so some people may still be in danger.” Laughing when Phoebe asked what point she’d been making, “I think the main point was that you’d rather I didn’t murder Evan.” 

“I’m a genius,” Phoebe said, rolling her eyes and grinning all too brightly at the other girl. “My definition  of cute is.... do you have a face? Yes? Then you’re cute. Sometimes you don’t even need a face. Are you breathing? You’re cute!” Phoebe laughed a bit, pulling her knees up to rest her chin on top. “Oh, yes, no killing Evan. I’d be losing my two best friends. He’d be dead, and you’d be in jail, and I’d be totally sad. Do you wanna make me sad, May?”

Not sure how to even respond to that, Seth eventually settled for nodding absently, not sure that he would ever want the offending thing back. Or, well, actually he was sure that he would but he didn’t know if it would be a good thing for him to have it back. “… yeah. Or several. I’m definitely feeling the need to get drunk.”

“Drunk? Going all the way?” Phoebe leaned herself against the bar table, glancing over at him to order something before getting herself a drink, as well. “Might as well get drunk together! I’ve embarrassed myself in front of you enough to not care about you seeing me a total mess,” she said, glancing around before peaking back over at him. “You know,” Phoebe started, “the last time we were here together we were speed dating.”

“I can handle the not talking until you’ve had half of it,” Phoebe said, nodding her head quickly and pretending to zip her lips. A grin took over as she watched the other girl in silence, waiting, though not looking entirely too patient about it.

Keira wrapped her coat around her tiny frame and began what many might call a ‘walk of shame’ back to campus. It wasn’t exactly a far distance - which was found to be quite handy but seemingly problematic in some ways, especially when she was adamant on keeping her ‘friend with benefits’ purely focused on the benefits part. In her haste, the brunette collided with a figure as she turned a corner, looking down in an effort to steady herself and stay upright. “Do you mind?” she asked, turning with a clearly annoyed expression plastered on her face. Looking up at the figure, Keira made sure to pull her coat over last night’s dress a little more, keeping her stern expression all the while. 

“Oh, goodness,” Phoebe rushed out, sticking her hands out in an effort to make sure the other stood straight. “I’m sorry! I always look at my feet. It’s so much easier to make sure you don’t fall that way,” she said with a short laugh, dusting herself off and looking over, her smile still staying in place despite the annoyed look from the other girl. “Oh, hey!” The grin of her lips only furthered when she recognized the girl. “It’s good to see you! ... Maybe not like this. Are you alright?”
