despite the supernatural scents that mingled in the air, there was nothing but peace ( if you could call it that ) in bright haven and so, to have a sudden disturbance NOW kept ardan on edge. he’s busied himself for the entire day, throwing himself in paper work for crimson or catering to whatever needs his beloved lillian had needed. but still, he couldn’t shake off the feeling that something was wrong.
there was just something in the air that felt…no ― SMELLED different and he couldn’t figure out what or why. he wasn’t sure if he was just feeling a bit more paranoid than usual but his senses were never wrong and so throughout the day and most of the night, he’s been twitchy and shifty eyed.
still on edge even after calling it a day at work, ardan decided to go for a haunt before heading home, believing that a quick feed would calm his nerves. there were less people out considering the hour but the smell was still there, making him pause in his steps. he felt his body freeze, seeing as it lead towards cal’s underground. but just as he was about to investigate, another scent made him pause. it was something he’d smelt before, something calming and at the same time DELICIOUS.
it could only mean that a HALF-BREED was near.
in just a few quick steps, he found the source. a boy, looking around frantically. ardan watched him silently, just taking in his demeanor before his features warped into something indicating his distaste. the boy’s vampirism seemed to be calling out to him in a way, as if suppressed.
when he heard the boy call out, he couldn’t help but smirk at the quivering in his voice. it was then that ardan made his presence known.
“ ― it seems your senses are still in tact. yet here i thought i was mistaken about you being a half-breed. if that were the case, i would’ve had my fill of you. ”
it was as if the air was getting cooler as he anticipated another creature to stand before him. he knew he wasn’t alone, and better yet, he was accompanied by someone of his kind. yet, he had no slightest clue of what could happen to him next. the vampire -- or the other dhampir could attack him out of the blue and he wouldn’t be the least bit prepared to fight with his own kind; much thanks to the disappearance of the vampire father figure in his life.
though, his head turned around to the source of the voice. his eyes scanned the figure as he kept his guard up, yet he was careful enough not to project the hint of fear that was creeping up his neck. the man seemed... ancient and quite wise. there was just something that was drawing him into the man but he couldn’t quite put his finger on it.
the words the left the other’s mouth was a concrete proof that the man was no human, and his instincts were not mistaken. a scuff left his own lips as he kicked pebbles with his right foot, an action to diffuse his nervousness. ace was too prideful to walk around with his head down, begging for the other to go easy on him as he was nowhere near being the well-taught dhampir he was supposed to be.
“it would seem to be that way. maybe your radar is the one that’s broken. i’m, in fact, a half-breed. but i have no interest in your shitty vampire ways. you’re all just vicious fuckin’ monsters.”
the words were aimed at the man, filled with spite. and that was truly what ace believed. he wanted no business or connection with the vampire realm, and it almost made him turn away from the stranger yet... it was as if his feet couldn’t move. “i assume that now’s when you decide to make me your next meal, yeah?”
