Titania sat quietly at the base of the marble shrine that belonged to Athys – the Goddess of of life, fertility, and love – she was not praying, but rather, upkeeping the shrine. She took the time to dust the leaves from the steps, to set out her own tributes to the Goddess ; of roses and lilacs. White candles lit, with drops of lavender perfume. She hadn’t prayed to the Goddess for many a year, but she felt as though the Goddess had done a great deal for her over her life and even though it was now all gone from her grasp – she still should show proper appreciation for it. When she heard footsteps arriving, she looked up from where she sat on the marble steps. “Sorry, do you need a moment alone?” Titania asked them, moving to stand.
The man he’d been following had vanished in the general vicinity of Athys’ shrine, and Jaime, diligent as a dog tailing a fox, had followed. It hadn’t occurred to him that disturbing certain shrines might involve disturbing certain shrine-maidens – if that was what the blonde was, at any rate – until he was already meeting her eyes. “Er–” What he should have done was say yes, which might have solved all of his problems and given him cover to search the shrine further, but for some reason found himself stumbling on his way to the word. “No. I mean, yes. Well–” A pause. Something about her presence made him feel slightly guilty. It wasn’t as if he had to catch the man, not really. “No. I’m sorry to have disturbed, er, you. And the shrine.”
