The time has changed; what once was just fear was closer than never to become a living nightmare. He had lost too much, more than many would consider to be enough to lose his mind. But Magneto’s pain was also the sort of his force, and his dreams were even greater than never. He needed more allies. More mutants that wanted to be part of something bigger than themselves, a new Era when they would could be free from the disease that was the humankind.
The job felt almost nostalgic, recruiting young promising talents. Of course, this was much harder considering the current political situation, and the fact that back when he first started, he had help. A very special kind of help.
Erik heard rumors about a potentially powerful mutant, a telepath. Those were always most welcomed on the Brotherhood. Additionally, Charles Xavier hadn’t yet had the chance to fill this mutant’s mind with nonsense hope. This one must be powerful enough to deflect the work of Cerebro. Good. Magneto walked down the street with hopes that there might still be time for him to be the first to call this young mind’s attention. Nevertheless, destiny had very different plans, as this was too much to be called coincidence. As soon as he turned the corner he saw him at a distance. He chuckled ironically walking towards the one who was there probably for the same reason as him, and yet, they had such different plans.
“It’s been a long time, old friend.” - they had always kept it in friendly terms when it came to things like this, and honestly, part of him felt certain a warm homely sensation which soften the face of the man who had lost so much.
Indeed, Cerebro was not working when it came to this particular mutant. They...ought to have blocked him out. Which made Charles ponder about exactly what he was dealing with. The image of the mutant looked innocent enough. Smiles all around, a boyish face. There was even indication as to where they were located. But- oh- how easy Cerebro made it. Especially for a man with a wheelchair.
Nonetheless, Charles Xavier never gives up. Not even in this particular case. And, while being outside of his school gave him a bad feeling, he still made it around easily. In this particular moment, he and Hank McCoy have split up. They were getting absolutely no where in this area. Especially with the added bonus that Xavier could not latch onto the telepath’s mind.
He tried everyone within area, even sometimes closing his eyes and allowing for one hand to rub against his temple and the other to guide the steering of his wheels. Yet nothing.
Then something tickled his brain.
Those thoughts...that voice...
Dear lord for once he didn’t wear that ridiculous helmet.
And for a moment he smiled a bit, not wanting to open his eyes, wondering if he should speak first, but then the thoughts grew louder. No. Wait. They weren’t thoughts at all.
Old friend. Instead the phrase tickled his ears. Erik...he speaks!
Charles opened his eyes,
“My dear old friend, it’s been a long time indeed. Of all places, to see you here.”
Yet he perfectly knew what Erik wanted.
