“It is merely a scratch. I’ve had worse.”
“You want a band aid, or something?”
“why you gotta always believe her over me? she is the liar, i’m not.”
“I don’t believe either of you. I don’t even know you.”
Rainey was lost. She thought so anyway. She didn’t recognise the scenery and the fact that her headphones were blasting a Hall & Oates song wasn’t really helping. And y’know, then there was a girl and a backpack and she had to shove her headphones down her neck, only catching the end of her words. “You speaking to me, tiny child?” Was she actually a child? Rainey wasn’t sure. Would that stop her from addressing her as such? No fuckin’ way. “Why do you have mint leaves?” She asked as she crouched down in front of her, picking one up.
Tiny child. If Blue could frown any more, she was sure her face would stick like that. She huffed, and looked at the girl who addressed her as such. “I’m eighteen years old, despite what you think,” she shot back, before pausing when the question was presented to her. “I have a friend who likes to chew on them. Sometimes, he stores them in my backpack,” she answered, her mind wandering to an image of Gansey, absentmindedly gnawing while he read a book. “Why does it matter?”
The scowl on her face had only deepened as she watches the contents of her battered backpack fall to the ground. She knelt, a string of curse words flowing out under her breath, as she gather her belongings once more. Mint leaves. Old pictures. Some pencils and a journal. She only paused when she could hear someone approaching. “Any help here? No? Great,” she announced, although it was mostly to herself, leaning back onto her heels to take an exasperated breath.
