Joshua felt nervous. A bottomless pit opening in his stomach as his brain began to work out how wrong could his involvement cause Alicia’s life to go. He was often accused of being the embodiment of the Sin of Sloth, a being with extensive knowledge and power who refused to use either. But no one could understand his reasons without having first walked a few centuries in his shoes… War, destruction, famine, pestilence, evil disguised as holy, holy disguised as evil…. Whatever the case, Joshua’s involvement had never made anything better. Yet, here he was… extending a hand to a human he considered a friend—meddling.
When the door open, Joshua took a shaky breath. Sensing her nervous always helped make him even more nervous. “I arranged it left to right: the birth certificate that matches yours, a birth certificate of who could be your sibling…. And this woman.” Joshua’s hand fell softly on the last file. “She birthed both children, and when I ran your DNA, it matched hers…” Joshua stepped back, watching her silently. “You don’t have to go through them right now, Alicia.”
Once inside his office she closed the door and walked over to him. She glanced over each form as he spoke before reaching for what was supposed to be her birth certificate. “Hm, I never really thought of why there weren’t any pictures of me when I was younger. I mean I asked once but I never had any reason to think that they would lie to me. Turns out everything was a lie. ” She put down the birth certificate. She then looked up at Joshua. “These DNA tests are accurate right? That means this.. “ Alicia paused motioning towards the papers. “This is evidence of who my family actually is, or who they are suppose to be. How am I suppose to feel about this?”
