Where most would not be able to, Lucius wakes up from a deep sleep. A mixture of exhaustion and relief, that comes each time he can break away from the Dark Lord’s ranks. But he’s woken up by a distinct whimper. Their little dragon, Draco, up and awake before sunset. Lucius is quick about it, leaving a note on Narcissa’s beside dresser. He is out of the door with Draco’s stroller, before his son could burst into a fit of tears. After so much of her time spent managing alone, the least he could do is give his wife one good night’s sleep.
They make their way through the frosted grounds. A heavy silence, that could only come after profound tragedy. It’s become a regular occurrence, Lucius almost forgets a time without it. He’s come up to the bridge, when a distinct flash of red catches from the top. No one would paint the Potter’s or Malfoy’s as civil acquaintances, even at the best of times. Old Hogwarts rivalries and differing political positions made it so. And yet, he does not turn to leave just yet.
“Potter,” he finally calls out, breaking Lily out of her spell. “If you’re planning to jump off this bridge, let it be known I won’t follow you in pursuit.” It is freezing, after all, and why waste his few days recovering from hypothermia?

There were honestly a lot of people that Lily would have preferred to see right now. Lucius Malfoy was not top of this list. She supposed he was probably not on the list at all. To say that Lily did not trust him was a little of an understatement to be honest. It wasn’t that she hated the man, just maybe she disliked him. She felt the same about most of the people that had aligned with the Dark Lord. She supposed she should have liked him more now. He was supposedly on their side after all. But none of them would ever know for sure. And so, she was likely never going to trust him.
She blinked as she turned her head to look at him. Couldn’t he have left her in peace? Sigh. “Good thing I don’t plan on jumping then.” And anyway, she wouldn’t have wanted him to save her anyway. Anyone else but him would do. “So no need to have any inconvenience placed on you at all.”
