henry/lizzie + annoying the hell of people with their public display of affection
The first recorded fireworks in England were at the wedding of King Henry VII and Elizabeth of York in 1486. They gained popularity during the reign of Henry VIII and by Elizabethan times (1558-1603) there was a fireworks master. Queen Elizabeth I created this post so that someone would be in charge of organising firework displays for great occasions. James II even knighted his fireworks master after a particularly excellent show of fireworks at his coronation. (x)

the tudors: a summary
KING HENRY VII OF ENGLAND and QUEEN ELIZABETH OF YORK.
Independent accounts of King Henry VII of England ( @coronatusregno ) Queen Elizabeth of York ( @ofyorkists ). Written by Claudia and Bex.
“With their marriage, a new dynasty of English Monarchs began, The Tudor Dynasty was short but swift and precise. Their marriage brought the end of the Wars of the Roses and a new period of peace. It was a marriage of convenience, but just as well, it was rare for the time to see such devotion between royal couples.“
The beauty and chastity of this lady are indeed so great that neither Lucretia nor Diana herself were either more beautiful or more chaste. So great is her virtue and her character so fine, that she certainly seems to have been preserved by divine will (…)

DEAR LIZZIE:
“stop it.“ And she rolls her eyes because her sister was incorrigible. Though it brings a lightness into dark times through the lands. Hopefully it will all change once the marriage is done. Lizzie listens closely, Cecily’s worries were well settled and she thinks them through before replying, eyes on the King himself as if examining him. “He is handsome and taller than we were told. And young.” Though not as young as she was. But still; young for a king. “He has been in exile for decades, Cecily. One must expect he is not entirely adjusted to life in England, less alone as King.” And she sighs for a moment, hands joining over her middle, holding herself down. “But something tells me he will triumph.”
Or so she hopes and she will make sure of it. Lizzie does not want to live to see another civil war in their country. She can grow to love him, care for him and be a queen and mother. It was her destiny, just like their mother. “Now, sister, you are eliminating half of the noblemen out here.” And Lizzie holds down a chuckle and shakes her head. But she will speak on her sister’s behalf. “You are young. And Henry is not an unreasonable man. Let me speak to him. Like you said—he will try to make me happy as a queen. And seeing you happy will make me as such.”
“ he must triumph, lizzie. i know whom i would rather see on the throne in his place, ” at that point she is very careful to lower her tone, for no one must hear them speak against the king of england thus, “ but with you by his side there can finally be peace. mother and father may no longer be able to rule but you will - you will bring peace back to english soil and the york legacy will live on through you. ” discretely, cecily moved a hand to gently hold onto her sister’s arm before giving it supportive squeeze.
“it is fair to say that my marriage must be a chess move for his grace and the crown, even more so than yours was for they cannot afford to allow anyone of a threat to marry your sisters and have heirs which may claim the throne... just please do not let my husband be absolutely dreadful, especially not when you are as FORTUNATE as this.” a light tone returned to cecily’s voice in order to make them look much less suspicious, almost groaning as she glanced in the king’s direction as a gesture to her sister. “ i hope you do see how lucky you are, lizzie. if i happened to be the oldest it would be my luck that my king and husband would be thrice my age and have a larger belly than a woman heavily with child. ”
MY SISTER, THE QUEEN:
“Being Queen feels really requestiong responsibilities, Cecily” Elizabeth responded as her sister questioned her. “I assure you that staying a Princess is better.” she added. Her sister had more freedom actually. Elizabeth missed that freedom, though she knew too well that once being a Queen there was no way back. You were trapped in the crown trap. “I don’t know what you are trying to say with this, Cecily. It looked better, but our father cannot be brought back. He is in a place he doesn’t feel any pain, any resentment. He is at peace.”
“ i only spoke in jest, lizzie...” at the mention of their father cecily became noticeably quieter, any curiosity or jealousy which previously bubbled within her simmered into nothing as came the reminder that being king may as well have killed their father and his brothers - it would surely kill them all one day. “ father would be happy to see you as queen, that much i am certain of, you must hold you head high for him. he will be looking down at you today with great pride. ”
SISTER OF MINE:
“Given Bridget is to become a nun, I expect she shall be nothing like us,” elbow nudges her older sister, with a smirking grin settled on her mouth. “Catherine may have a chance too, though she does remind me so much of you, so I would not place money upon it.”
lizzie scoffed with false hurt before she returned the nudge, shortly followed by laughter escaping her. “ then it is settles, bridget shall be the most fortunate and will surely enjoy her time in a religious house where she can be free of her mischievous sisters, mary especially - she is the worst of all. ”
LADY MOTHER:
Elizabeth reached out to tenderly cup Cecily’s cheek, fingertips caressing the rosy flesh. “This has been a time of great uncertainty for all of us, my Cecily,” she said gently, “but I promise that you have not been forgotten. An honorable match will be made for you. Perhaps not with a king as your father and I had once dreamed, for Henry and his mother would not allow it, but I will not see you wed to anyone unworthy of you.”
subconsciously cecily found herself leaning into her mother’s touch, as if for a moment the young woman felt herself slip back into childhood when all she ever needed was a mother’s warmth to make her feel better - in truth that may still have very well been the case. “i trust your judgement over all others, but i do fear what will happen once we will be in tudor hands... what if we have no say on what happens to myself and the girls? what will happen to you?”

HENRY:
How things had changed. Henry had never expected for them to be this intimate. Marriages were to make alliances, to make people unite to another in order to make a strong claim to one’s titles. In their case, to make Henry’s case to the throne stronger; to marry a York princess. But the baby prince beside them, the child she carried had changed how they acted upon one another. In Arthur they deposited their love and hopes for the kingdom and they stand united against those who pretend harm to their family.
And as things go, feelings were developed. Henry is no fool. He knows it, for he feels the warm on his belly when he sees her, or how he craves her touch, as gentle as possible. Or how her lips touch his own and he draws breath and a hand moves to the side of her neck, pressing her lips on his just to let them linger for a second. “We are young. We just had a son to secure our reign. I’m confident that we will thrive.” And the king things for a moment as blue eyes search for her greenish ones and breaks a smile even so briefly. “Maybe now we could have a daughter. That would be perfect.” He understands the need to have an heir and a spare as many told him so rudely. But he knows a woman is capable of ruling just as he is. After all, wasn’t he considering already a marriage to Arthur with a spanish princess? daughter of Isabel of Castile.
Or maybe he just wishes for a family, as he never had one. Not a proper one. Living in exile with his uncle, writing for decade to his mother and only now seeing her truly. Its not the life he wishes upon others. “Indeed, a daughter would please me greatly.”
the young queen looked at her husband in his most vulnerable state, without a crown and guards surrounding him, both of them in nothing but their bed clothes and not a drop of finery in sight, and even she could not deny the feeling in the pit of her stomach. henry had changed before her very eyes, he had opened to her like a true red rose and she was unbelievably fond of him for it. the babe whom lay sleeping soundly in his basket had only furthered the feelings which ignited and heavens was she thankful for it.
for a moment elizabeth lay in silence. one pale hand sifted to toy with the collar of his shirt, at first it were as if she acted to straighten it but then her fingertips found home against the warmth of his neck and followed the stubble until they traced the line of his jaw - by god was he handsome. “ i had a dream whilst in my confinement that we had many children. it was not a family as large as my mother’s, but it was the family you deserved as a child and we were very happy. ” upon meeting lizzie had spoken occasionally about her childhood and it always ended up giving her a feeling of guild, sadness too for she so wished that henry could have experienced a warm, loving and full childhood as she had. it was certainly odd to think that way of the boy whom was said to have been raised to usurp her uncle’s throne, but now she was extremely fond of that boy and the man he had become.
“ if that is what will please you then i will give that to you. if god is kind we will have many sons and many daughters, for it would pleaseme greatly too. ”
