Explanation of Reincarnation
•You are the universe.
•You are the universe expressing itself as a human being for a short time.
•You are the universe being aware of itself, seeing itself though your eyes.
•You are not the individual self / ego that you identify with. That’s just a role-playing game the Universe is playing.
•When the body dies, the ego dies and the illusion of an individual self dies too.
•But the Universe goes on, expressing itself in new and various ways.
•People die, and babies are born.
•You are the universe, you are life itself. You will not die, you will go on, expressing yourself and role-playing in various life after life.

How to Pick a Date for Your Spells
The first advice of absolute importance is to avoid starting anything during the Moon’s Void of Course. Things like interviews, important business meetings, initiating projects, and especially Spells likely won’t turn out well or will remain unfinished.
When planning a date for your Spell, it’s important to take into consideration the following things:
Moon Phase
Moon Sign
Day of the Week
Retrograde Planets
Make sure the above bullets points align with the goals of your Spell. We have a Moon Phase Planner for 2020 that has all the above information to help pick a date for your Spells!
For example, if we wanted to do a spell for Material Wealth:
December 24, 2020 is an excellent day because:
the Moon is Waxing and is close to a Full Moon
the Moon is in Taurus, the sign of luxury and material possessions
it’s a Thursday which is ruled by Jupiter - the planet of wealth and expansion
Venus is NOT Retrograde
Now keep in mind that these are guidelines for timing your spells with the best natural energy available. You can do a money spell any time you like (avoid the Void of Course Moon) but it may not have as much supportive energy compared to the above example. This is because of the reasons given in the example. Taurus, the ruler of wealth, is a much better sign for getting money compared to Cancer for example.
The following information will help guide you in planning a date for your Spells.
Moon in the Signs
Aries: —————
-Aries deals with energy, independence, competition, taking risks, the Self, and leadership.
-Do Spells that help with healing the physical body, advancing by overcoming competition, increasing vitality, first impressions, and with how you view yourself.
-Aries is a quick starter sign so it is a good to start things where much energy is needed; however it is also an impulsive sign so be sure to follow through with anything initiated during this time.
Taurus: —————
-Taurus deals with sensuality, material wealth, self-worth, and permanence.
-Do Spells for money, wealth, acquiring material things, improving your self-worth or self-esteem, and sensual love.
-Taurus is a steadfast and sometimes stubborn sign so it is good for initiating anything that you want to last.
Gemini: —————
-Gemini deals with communication (all forms), details, correspondence, short distance travel, people close to you such as siblings relatives and neighbors.
-Do Spells for helping communication go smoothly in case of a difficult conversation, improved relations with those close to you, help in all forms of writing activities such as emails, letters, calls, or professional writing.
- Gemini is a communicative sign so it is a good sign to support any form of communication.
Cancer: ————— -Cancer deals with the family, home, nurturing, personal roots, emotional foundations, land, and property.
-Do Spells to help with improving family life, finding a good home to buy, cleansing/banishing/protecting the home, real estate transactions, and healing from childhood trauma.
-Cancer is a nurturing sign with motherly energy so it is a good sign for Self-love activities.
Leo: ————— -Leo deals with romance, creativity, leadership, confidence, and children.
-Do Spells to help with romance, love affairs, improving creativity, leadership ability, confidence, success in the limelight, and career advancement in creative fields such as art, music, or acting.
-Leo is a proud sign that enjoys attention so it is a good sign for being “center-stage”.
Virgo: ————— -Virgo deals with health, service, routines, details, and diet.
-Do Spells to help with improving health, starting daily routines, or in performing your work duties.
-Virgo is a meticulous sign so it is a good sign for tasks requiring attention to detail.
Libra: ————— -Libra deals with relationships, partnerships, balance, legally binding contracts, and the law.
-Do Spells to help with improving interpersonal interactions, attracting a marriage partner or business partner, making cooperative relationships go smoothly, or getting a divorce.
-Libra is a diplomatic sign so it is a good sign for making or breaking contracts.
Scorpio: ————— -Scorpio deals with the occult, secrets, the subconscious, research, sex, power, and transformations.
-Do Spells to help with concealing or revealing secrets, increasing psychic powers, any form of divination, personal transformations, attaining power, starting research projects, and attracting sexual partners.
-Scorpio is a transformative sign so it is a good sign for doing shadow work.
Sagittarius: ————— -Sagittarius deals with the law, religion, philosophy, higher education, learning, foreign places, and long distance travel.

Aquarius: ————— -Aquarius deals with friends, communities, organizations, social activities, goals, group goals, freedom, and technology.
-Do Spells for help with attracting friendships, success in group activities and community events, creating and achieving goals, and attaining freedom.

-Pisces is a psychic sign so it is a good sign to help develop psychic abilities.
Moon Phases
Full Moon - the highest point in the moon’s cycle where its energies are at its peak. This is an excellent time for divination.
Note: when a Full Moon occurs twice in a month (October 31 2020) it is considered a Blue Moon. This is similar to a Full Moon but has more power
Waning Moon - the moon here is decreasing to a New Moon so its energies are that of degeneration. Use this time for banishing, cleansing, destruction or bringing anything to an end such as a relationship or bad habits.
New Moon - on the waning side of the New Moon, it has an ending type of energy as the moon is “disappearing”. On the waxing side it has the energy of potential, ready for new beginnings.
Waxing Moon - a time of growth as the light of the moon increases to its peak at the Full Moon. Use this time to do Spells for building something up in your life such as health, new friendships.
Note: it is better to do the Spell closer to the Full/New Moon depending on the goal. Unless you want to do the Spells for multiple days, such as cleansing/banishing, you can start right after the Full Moon and end on the New Moon. This supports the goal of removing bad energy.
Days of the Week
Monday: —————
Monday is the day of the Moon. The moon carries feminine psychic energy and is a great day to start developing psychic abilities, perform divination, cleanse the home, or banishing rituals.
Tuesday: ————— Tuesday is the day of Mars. Mars carries the masculine warrior energy and is a great day for doing Spells where much energy is needed. It is also a good day for black magick where the result is quick and active. Think of the moment when two swords clash.
Wednesday: ————— Wednesday is the day of Mercury. Mercury rules all forms of communication, documents, short-distance travel, and health. This is a great day for doing Spells related to health, improving communication ability, difficult conversations, and safe travels.
Thursday ————— Thursday is the day of Jupiter. Jupiter is the greater benefic and rules luck, opportunities, expansion, higher education, philosophy, foreign places, religion, and the law. Use this day for Spells that deal with expansion and opportunities, safe long-distance travels, and educational study.
Friday ————— Friday is the day of Venus. Venus rules love, beauty, cosmetics, money, luxury, jewelry, and material possessions. Use this day for Spells to bring you money, acquire material possessions, and for successful cosmetic procedures.
Saturday ————— Saturday is the day of Saturn. Saturn authority, structure, work ethic, endurance, delays, restrictions, boundaries, limitations, and decay. This is a great day for black magick that acts slowly or for binding or restricting another. Also great for Spells requiring discipline such as breaking habits.

Conserving energy as a spoonie; and in your witchcraft:
Many people with chronic illnesses, disabilities, and mental health issues have used the Spoon Theory to explain how difficult it can be having reduced and fluctuating energy levels. Because of this, many spoonie witches can find it difficult to perform magic as they cannot muster the energy required to do so.
However, there is something important to note for witches of all kinds - you cannot perform all of your magic from your own energy supplies as you will exhaust yourself! There are energy sources all around us, and it is important to use these sources to channel your magic through. For me, I see magic as an innate force that is present throughout the universe, and it is possible for us to tune into this.
So, how can we do this? Below are a couple methods that I use to gain energy up from the earth to use in my practise. Feel free to also use these practises for when you are experiencing very low energy days and need a helping hand.
A simple energy flow exercise:
This exercise is very similar to grounding, where excess or busy energy is swapped for the more stable energy of the earth. However, in this exercise, you are channelling energy up from the earth in order to channel it into your spells, other magic work or just day to day tasks. This exercise has a common theme or central notion and so I will describe several different ways that it can be done. I always ask the earth if I may channel her energy before I begin, but don’t feel it necessary to do this if it doesn’t fit in with your belief systems.
Simple method: Place your feet upon the ground and feel the energy of the earth draw up through your feet and into your body. This can be difficult to visualise, so close your eyes and visualise the energy feeling like a fuzzy heat. If you like, you can do this exercise with bare feet and outside on the ground, but I find that it also works wearing shoes or inside. This method can take a few minutes to feel fully complete, and so this exercise can also be done sitting or lying down. If sitting, either sit directly on the floor, or sit in a chair and place your feet flat on the floor. If lying down, lay flat on your back and place your hands onto the floor, by your side. If you find the visualisation difficult, you can use your hands to rub your feet until you can feel a fuzzy heat there, then imagine this heat travelling throughout your body.
More complex method: This more complex method was taught to me by my mum when I was young to try and help combat my chronic fatigue. I don’t know if my mum invented this technique, or if it was taught to her by someone else. Whilst it is much more complex than the simpler method, I still find it helpful to do once in a while. Lay on your back with your arms by your side, palms pressed on the floor, your legs and feet flat. If you are unable to do this, find a more comfortable position but make sure the majority of your body is pressed against a surface, for instance you could sit on the floor with your back against the wall. Visualise four sides of a pyramid laid out around you (see the picture below). Visualise the sides of the pyramid as white or silver, and glowing with the energy of the ground. Slowly begin to raise the sides of the pyramid up around you, so that as the sides close, a pyramid is formed around you and you are laid in the middle. The colours of the pyramid are now yellow, and you can feel the energy of the ground around you and within you. Lay here for a few minutes further, focusing on the energy, and breathing it in. Once you are finished, slowly lower the sides of the pyramid again, and slowly get up. This can be a good way to gain energy for mundane tasks or everyday life, or it can be done right before performing specific magical tasks. Spend as long as you like on this task, from three minutes to half an hour.
Other ways to use outside energy sources for your magic include:
You can channel energy through crystals, clear quartz and fluorite are both excellent crystals for this. Just remember to charge them afterwards. You can eiither directly use the crystals in your spells or other magic, or hold the crystals in your hands for a while, visualising some of their energy channelling up through your arms.
Hover your hands over a plant and ask them if you can channel some of their energy. This could be wild plants, your garden plants, or your house plants. If you feel like they’re okay with this, imagine energy raising up from the plants and through your hands, and up into your body.
Pick your favourite blanket or throw, wrap it around yourself (like a blanket burrito!) and visualise the energy of the blanket seep into your skin. I crocheted myself a huge blanket this year and it’s perfect for this!
Create and draw sigils for energy and draw them on yourself for when you need to perform a magic task.
Hover your hand over a light or a candle. Use the warmth of the light or candle to visualise it’s energy moving through your fingers and into your body. Be careful not to burn yourself.

Commentary on scrying
The following are my impressions of how one progresses towards success in scrying, as well as the methods I currently use in evocation.
Scrying is not dependent on ritual. It’s a skill in itself, for which there are records of people who aren’t even practicioners of magic doing it, sometimes by accident, sometimes intentionally only to be scared of the results and then never attempting it again.
The rationale for working on your scrying skills is simple: nailing the communication aspect of our dealings with spirits is paramount. It does us no good thinking things cannot be subtle at times, but an even greater disservice lies in thinking that’s all there is, and with that, reducing our acts of magic to uncertainties.
Scrying with and without a medium
Scrying can happen mentally or with an object. Contrary to what some say about the former coming with a risk of self-delusion, that is only the case if the practicioner is inclined to believe things without being certain. The things you voluntarily imagine do not constitute a vision. Period. While there may be a few nuances to that which I’ll get to, it’s best to persist until you get to the point where visions are unquestionably taking place.
When it comes to scrying, it would be negligent not to mention Benjamin Rowe’s A Short Course in Scrying. I wholeheartedly recommend it for being an invaluable essay on mental scrying as well as the art of meditation in a manner that’s conducive to obtaining visions. Here is the first nuance for my earlier statement: the visualisations suggested in there ultimately result in scrying once the imaginary constructs become real enough in time, but as Benjamin suggests, one shouldn’t try to see anything since that results in voluntary products of one’s own imagination.
It’s difficult writing concise instructions for what is quite likely a path which is different for each of us, as what’s possibly happening is one is “untangling” whatever is in the way of the visions that would otherwise come naturally. We all have our own barriers to first acknowledge and then tear down.
The method for mental scrying
The method, as I have it nailed at the time of this writing, consists of the following steps, in order:
Sit with a straight spine. It’s not important which posture you choose insofar as scrying successfully goes, but obviously, choose what you can do with a good level of comfort. For the average westerner, keeping a straight posture without moving at all for even half an hour is a decent feat.
Stay absolutely still. That will take practice. Don’t rush through this. Like proper warm up defines your performance prior to martial arts training, this is also of great assistance.
Turn your attention to a combination of the wholeness of your body, and the rhythm of your breathing. Speaking of which, keep a steady, slow rhythm in it, similar to the movement of a pendulum, easing out at the end of each inhalation/exhalation, and pushing it slightly beyond your usual comfort zone.
At the mark of around 10 minutes, with practice, both your posture and your breathing should be cemented in, and require little or no effort to continue.
From hereon, your attention should only partially remain where it was before (on your body and breathing), but now point most of it towards contemplating the darkness right in front of you. It’s a kind of stare that goes without strain. Very still, and without visualising anything.
The method for physical scrying
Having undergone my own training mentally scrying first, I’m inclined to believe this was a big part of the reason for my success in then using an obsidian mirror. Though several writings out there (See Northcote W. Thomas ― Crystal Gazing) indicate that people have succeeded by starting with a physical medium first, so it may be entirely possible to start from it.
The attentive will notice that what’s happening on step 5 of the previous instructions is I’m suggesting you use the darkness behind one’s eyelids (much facilitated by a dark room) as a medium. This is also not new. Jonn Mumford in his Magical Tattwa Cards: A Complete System of Self-Development suggests it is the ultimate scrying medium, but I digress on grounds of finding it difficult using it efficiently in the context of evocation.
The medium of choice does not matter, and I’ll wait for more consistent proof of otherwise before I change my opinion. Once the right mental state is obtained, there seems to be very little difference between a fire lamp, a water bowl, a black mirror, or a crystal ball of any kind. Picking what you have handy and getting started now trumps finding a more specific kind of medium.
The steps are, unsurprisingly, as the ones above, but replacing the fifth step with staring at the medium you choose. Frater Ashen Chassan in his excellent Gateways Through Stone and Circle suggests being expectant of visions happening yet without visualising anything. I found that frame of mind useful, to the extent that you don’t let that get in the way of relaxedly focusing on the medium itself.
What to expect
I debated adding this section since it’s easy getting trapped by expectations about the order in which things happen. But in the interest of allowing people to recognise any indicators in case that’s their experience, here it goes.
In no particular order, and by no means exclusively, the following will happen:
Sleepiness, to a point that you dose off and that ruins the exercise.
A feeling of losing your balance, despite being stably sitting down.
A feeling of being in motion, as if being pulled backwards by gravity. You may at times be entirely convinced that you are travelling astrally. I haven’t ever found that to be the case, though.
What I call the “limbs backwards” feeling. For instance, as if your hands are attached to your arms in reverse, palms facing outwards.
While mentally scrying:
Dreams in short bursts.
Longer dreams, consisting of nonsensical images.
Dreams becoming sufficiently lucid that you can speak and move around, yet you know you’re fully awake in your body.
Some beings that appear in these dreams are legitimate “visits” of spiritual entities. It may be hard at first discerning which, but a safe bet is relying on repeatedly seeing the same ones. The usual methods of spirit identification apply here.
While scrying on a medium:
An impression that the medium is shrinking and/or growing in intervals. That is, pulsing.
Tiny particles flying very quickly across it.
Flashes of images that appear very quickly then slowly fade away.
Scenes in motion, not necessarily anything that has happened, but note that past memories can occur.
Turning your head away from the medium and back does not interrupt the vision, especially in the context of ritual when requesting spirits to manifest, once it happens, them being visible in the medium doesn’t hinge on staying focused on it.
Regardless of how this goes, one thing is certain: if you’re wondering whether you scried successfully, then it hasn’t happened. It may be of little use saying it, but it took me close to a year of at least half an hour daily for the clearer phenomena to take place on a regular basis.
Notes on breathing
For people with poor breathing habits (I’m one of them), the act of ritual breathing comes hard. There are several micro-pauses in the course of inhaling/exhaling which are indicators that a lot of effort is being necessary for keeping the rhythm flowing smoothly.
Think of the movements of a ballerina. What creates what we perceive as the perfect motion is a mix of constant speed (or constant variations of thereof) and easing in and out between motions. Ritual breathing executed in perfection is no different than that, and similarly, it will take practice. But once achieved, one can go for long periods of times doing it stably without any effort. This is desirable as it then requires no focus, allowing for attention to be then given to the medium.
The approach I found most favourable is breathing from the belly. Much has been written on this topic alone, and I’ll refrain from going further than that, instead referring you to the work of Jason Miller.
Notes on helpful circumstances
Thus far I haven’t mentioned consecrating the physical medium, and that’s intentional as I’m only inclined to give it the benefit of the doubt due to magicians I respect vouching for it, but personally I don’t think it is in itself key to succeeding. My own experience a consecrated mirror has only taken place after having already succeeded at scrying semi-reliably without any medium, so I can’t vouch for what really changes once you do that.
Well-conducted ritual, however, definitely changes the equation more than a little. I find the visions on the mirror will come significantly quicker (counting from the start of the gaze to vision) during it, and be a lot more vivid, often protruding out of the mirror and taking over its space. There’s likely an element of meeting us halfway that is real, after all.
Last, I had the privilege of taking part in an experiment with a well-known magician in using hypnosis as means to enhance one’s ability to see and hear spirits. This was hugely helpful in getting me past the tipping point between semi-reliably and very reliably being able to scry. I’ve since done a few more sessions where I played back recordings of my own voice with conducive suggestions, until things got to where I wanted to.
Best of luck!
Witchery for the hearth.
Lay thorny branches on your doorstep to drive away evil.
Put thyme in your last meal of the day to have pleasant dreams.
Place coins and cedar chips in a box for an easy money spell.
The bark of the willow tree is a natural painkiller.
Put almonds in your pocket to recover a lost object.
Light candles throughout the house regularly.
Sprinkle oats over your garden (especially herbs) to ensure good growth.
Honey is a natural antibiotic and antibacterial. Got a cold sore? Put that stuff all over that. Got a cold? Eat a tablespoon every few hours.
Place lilacs all over the house to get rid of unwanted spirits.
Drink cranberry juice to get a good detox when in need of grounding.
Hang dill over your door to keep people who wish ill on you out.
Place half an onion in the room with someone who is sick to draw out disease.
Place morning glory seeds inside your pillow to get rid of bad dreams.
Pour salt in your bath (or shower floor if you don’t have a bath) to cleanse and ground yourself.
Use chili peppers to break a curse.
Plant rosemary next to your front gate or door for a little good luck.
Watch Out For Online Cults
A lot of talk about cults and manipulative people in the community is focused on an in-person level. Things that an in-person group will do, how their control extends into your offline life, but cult behaviors and mindsets can absolutely be used online and may not be as visible or as obvious. Here’s a small, incomplete checklist of things to watch out for, red flags and the like. (Note: I’m not talking about any specific group or individuals here. None of these on their own make a cult, but a lot of them together can potentially mark a toxic environment at least. This isn’t intended to be a diagnostic tool, just things to analyze and reflect on. Please always be safe and don’t let yourself stay in toxic environments whether they “count” as a cult or not.)
The “leader” can do no wrong. They are not capable of truly making mistakes, or any misstep they do make is quickly explained away or defended by their followers. Any criticism is quickly punished, labeled as problematic, or otherwise shut down. Online, people will often sing the praises of or “lovebomb” the leader after these incidents.
It’s Us vs. Them. Anybody who criticizes the group is an enemy. Anybody who chooses not to be a member of the group must have something wrong with them. Critics/people on the outside just don’t “get it” like they do. The “outside” may be painted as threatening/the group as a safe haven, and opposing viewpoints should not be given any attention, even to consider them critically. You’re discouraged from joining other similar groups.
Using social justice lingo as a way to control people. Manipulators can speak the language too. They may bring up gaslighting, gatekeeping, policing, invalidation, and other things and accuse an individual or group in order to either guilt the person into acquiescing or vilify them to the other members. This is a really effective tactic for shutting someone down.
The leader is elevated or enlightened in some way. They claim to be a deity, or at least closer to the divine/enlightenment than you. They have a more effective/direct line of communication with spirits or entities. They have wisdom or knowledge you must stay with them to take part in.
Dictating parts of your online life. Members must change their names, icons, speech/typing patterns, etc. to conform to the group. The rules for behavior in an online setting go beyond what is needed to maintain order. Members may be asked to do a lot to “prove” they deserve to be/stay in the group.
You’re scared to leave. You can’t imagine your online life without this group. You feel like you need the community/resources it provides you. You’re worried members will turn against you if you leave. You’re worried that leaving or voicing concern about the group will have negative repercussions on other platforms.
My little beginner grimoire! I’ve found using an app is the best for me personally, but I love seeing others’ books too, especially pen-and-paper ones. They’re all so unique and really tend to reflect who you are, no matter what you use to keep track of things 😊
To have this a bit more concisely since I forgot to include it originally: this app is Awesome Note for iOS! I love it because the folder options are so pretty and its organization is super nice too, especially for my crystal collection since the thumbnails can be of my exact crystals to find them easier.
Even better addition to the OP! <3
