some debunked pokemon go “tips” i’ve heard (feel free to add more you’ve seen debunked!):

“eevee’s evolutions are determined by moveset” - demonstrably false. jury’s out on nicknames, have yet to see a case where pyro/rainer/sparky nicknames have failed when the nicknames were confirmed to have been saved by the servers

“the green pulse around the nearby list indicates you’re facing in the right direction” - the green pulse indicates that the nearby list has been updated - it doesn’t necessarily mean something’s changed, just that the list has essentially ‘refreshed’

“tapping a pokeball after missing will recover it” - this is just straight-up not the case

“you can hatch eggs by shaking your device/spinning your device/any sort of stationary movement” - pokemon go DOES NOT USE A PEDOMETER, the step counter is based on your GPS location moving

“downloading offline maps for google maps will decrease load times” - this seemed legit because it is the case for ingress, but it is not here - pokemon go does not use google maps’ API for location data.

“you can email nintendo with proof of disability to unlock different settings” - nintendo did not develop the game, no one would set them to be something that you have to contact the developer to unlock, and they would not require proof to change said settings

“the leaves indicate a pokemon is going to spawn there” - it seems to just be cosmetic, but may indicate that a pokemon will spawn somewhere soon

“different weather conditions affect pokemon spawns” - the one i heard the most is “storms = electric and water pokemon”, this has no basis in reality

one that’s true:

some pokemon do have altered spawn rates based on what time it is! clefair and the gastly line appear more frequently at night.

the app takes speed into account, and so will not work in cars/buses/trains, unless they are going at average walking/running speeds.

I just picked Echo up from the vet. His diagnosis is tracheobronchitis. THANK GOD IT’S NOT HEARTWORM. They did a heartworm and blood parasite test and it came back negative! This is SUCH GOOD NEWS!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately, though, the tests and everything else ran me a deposit of 75 dollars just to get him looked at and then 160.79 for all the tests…leaving me with a grand total of 230 dollars. The 75 was a combination of my money and my moms money. The 160 was from my dad. THIS IS ALL MONEY THAT WE DO NOT HAVE. And I have to pay my parents back! Luckily, my parents are more lenient about pay back dates than the vet is. It was absolutely necessary to get Echo to the vet because this could have been heartworm and could have been life threatening. We now have a peace of mind that it is not! And we have cough medication to give him. And he has had a heartworm and worm in general shot that should last a month now so he is protected and I feel so much safer but he still needs to get on a flea and tick medication and get his shots up to date (as you can also see above).

Echo is on bedrest for the next two weeks and cannot wear collars and only harnesses. This is gonna be hard for our pupper as he loves to run and bark and play all day. He’s currently all tuckered out from the vet visit, though. I have him in my room with the door shut and he’s under my bed sleeping at the moment. So this gives me a chance to take some pictures of stuff I need to get up on ebay.

I’m posting this from mobile because I took the pics from my phone but I’m going to update this from a computer with my donation site, my ebay, and my etsy shop. Please help us out if you can!!! Echo still needs to be rechecked for inflammation in his lungs two weeks later and he has an appt on Friday (that my mom is helping out with) to get his shots updated and get some flea and tick meds and heartworm prevention.
