Concept: you’ve been married to your wife for 3 years. You wake up in your bed before she does, your nose cold but your body warm. Careful not to wake her, you get out of bed and your toes curl when your feet hit the cold floor. You brew a pot of coffee and take a cup, making sure to leave enough for her. You pull on a big sweater and walk out onto your deck, sitting in a big wood chair to look out over the forest. The leaves are orange and edged with frost. All is quiet as the sun rises over the trees. You hear the door opening behind you and your wife sits down next to you, wrapping the comforter from your bed around both of you shoulders. You sit there like that until the sun is well up and your coffee cups are empty.

I am always amazed at how some veterinarians can practice absolutely horrible medicine but have the most loyal clientele while others can be the most amazing practitioners but have difficulty keeping clients. It’s all about what the client perceives and some people are better at pulling the wool over people’s eyes than others.

So I’m in vet school and like many of my classmates have worked in a vet clinic previously. Many of us (myself included) have experienced the male dog owner who refuses to get his dog neutered because he “doesn’t want to take his manhood away” (the real issue here is fragile masculinity but that’s another story). But anyway intact male dogs are more likely to get a tumor of the testicles called a Sertoli cell tumor that will produce estrogen and cause a feminization syndrome where their mammary glands (dog boobies) enlarge. So a dude who doesn’t want his dogs manliness taken away can basically aid in the development of his male dog growing tits and if that ain’t the richest irony Idk what is

Passive-aggressive reminder that not all dogs are happy being social with other dogs. Not every dog who dislikes other dogs does so because they’re poorly socialized or afraid. Not being “dog park material” does not make that dog a bad dog; it just means they’re happier elsewhere. Please respect what your dog is telling you about themselves. You’ll both be happier for it.

Why Vet School Has Ruined Me

Because every time a dog comes up to me, instead of just enjoying petting them, all I can think about is the genetic diseases that breed is predisposed to.
