Welcome to New York // New Year’s Day // evermore
cowboy like me does something to me man
okay but I’m still convinced ivy is about two women:
“I’d meet you where the spirit meets the bones in a faith-forgotten land” Okay idk if “faith-forgotten” is an English saying (though I haven’t found anything abt it on google) but since they’re gay, they’re living out something the church has outruled & declared impossible, so it is “faith-forgotten” (could also allude to them turning their backs on religion for the same reason)
“I can’t stop you putting roots in my dreamland” for me sounds like the prospect of falling in love with the other person was unexpected which of course could also be the case for a heterosexual relationship but because of the unexpectedness of the attraction it just gives me gay vibes, too
the cottagecore vibe to the whole song??? “my house of stone, your ivy grows and now I’m covered in you”???? major wlw vibes
“what would he do if he found us out?” “he’s gonna burn this house to the ground” a fear that many non-heterosexual people know, like the anxiety of people finding out you’re not straight, doubled here because the protagonist is cheating on her husband. I also imagine the two women living in a conservative town that would not tolerate them being together in the first place
“so tell me to run” the idea of running away from that conservative town, to somewhere where they could live their life freely together… ugh
“ so yeah, it’s a fire, it’s a goddamn blaze in the dark, and you started it” again talks about the unexpectedness of this love. Like yeah, falling for someone while being in a relationship is unexpected but since this feeling is so intense, for me it proves that these feelings were extremely powerful and unexpected in that the protagonist has never felt them before which also makes it rlly gay to me
anyways, I won’t be accepting any criticism
The way Gold Rush is 3 minutes long but feels like it ends in barely a minute, the way it's a lot of words sung quickly and the same words repeating over, the way Taylor described it as getting lost in thought for a minute and then snapping out of it and it feels exactly like that
I love how in happiness she's like "your future gf's a fool" and then 2 seconds later she's like "oh my gosh that was so mean im so sorry"
I’ve never been a natural, all I do is try, try, try
The gardener did not even introduce herself to the new au pair. She barely acknowledged her at all. Simply treated her as if she’d always been there. The others just assumed they’d already met, which, if she were honest, was how the au pair felt when she first saw the young woman.

There’s so much stress everywhere you turn that I kind of wanted to make an album that felt sort of like a hug, or like your favorite sweater that makes you feel like you want to put it on.
There are other nights, and there will be other nights.
