lgbt representation (i say lgbt but i only mean gay men because the l, b and t are invisible) in korean media is almost non existent, and in the few occasions that it is, its mostly as comedic relief to be ridiculed/fetishization by fujos. when the reality of lgbt issues is brought up, it usually has to do with “allowing”/“acknowledging” the existence of lgbt people. and even then, people are very cautious about it, not because they don’t want to hurt the lgbt community, but because being anything except straight is considered a taboo. when lgbt sexuality is brought up, it is usually regarding the hypersexuality and perversion of gay men specifically. being raised in a culture where the image of a gay woman is basically non existent makes it difficult for you to build a sense of identity around your sexuality. i think i see this a lot among lesbian and bi women who didn’t grow up in the west. so half the time when i see (white) people on the internet talking about “my gay ass can’t drive lmaooo” or updating their gay awakening saga every 2 minutes i’m like. ok.
