"So yeah, as a camera operator I was right next to them all the time. I was the guy saying “Hey Jacob, can you lean back a little bit more?” Or “Hey Sam can you twist your leg a bit, it’s blocking my shot.” I always hated that aspect of my work, these guys are thinking about so many things with their characters and wearing uncomfortable period clothing and even more uncomfortable contact lenses and then I’m asking them to do silly gymnastics but the thing is - they never complained one bit. They both wanted to give me whatever I needed to make the shot work. They both considered my work to be just as important as what they were doing.

I’ll always love them for that. Neither one of them had much free time to speak of but occasionally Jacob would hang out on set, we were shooting overnights in New Orleans so if he couldn’t chat with his family in London sometimes he would just hang with us for a bit. Sam was always a trailer guy, he left set when his work was done but there are some amazing photos of him hanging out with the hair & makeup & wardrobe crew and the transpo guys who took care of his trailer. Different strokes for different folks, they both were always absolutely lovely to us crew.

Side note: Season 2 was shot in Prague but they did one day of shooting in New Orleans and I was invited to join. Turns out no one liked shooting in Prague and they were very happy to come home as it were… Jacob got teary eyed when he saw me so I gave him a big hug and after the night was done he sent an email to the entire New Orleans crew saying how much he missed us and loved us and appreciated us. Consummate pro. And just a really gracious human being."

god i can't imagine how exhausting acting could be in front of so many people and taking different takes. and he still acted his ass off!!
