Ash did feel a little bad.  He knew first hand that it was not fun to be cold and that even a cup of coffee could help.  “Well if you want to get warmed up, a coffee shop is a good place.  Does someone else have a spare key you could use to get in your apartment?”

“Yeah, they’re probably running around the streets somewhere.” She shrugged. Liza felt a little bad at this point for asking, the guy seemed to be trying to help and here she was ‘stretching’ the truth as she called it for a little extra cash. “I’ll figure something out, don’t worry about it,” she told him.

miller didn’t hesitate, fishing his wallet out of the pocket of his thick coat and opening it up, pulling out the first note he came across and holding the bill out. “it’s christmas right, the time for giving. so why not.” 

“Exactly,” she said with a short nod, pocketing the money quickly. Liza wasn’t a stranger to asking for money, though it didn’t mean she never felt a little strange doing it. But she made sure not to make it such a habit and only if it was absolutely the last straw. “Thanks- like you said, it’s Christmas, so money’s already pretty tight, y’know?”

Marnie raised an eyebrow at the stranger’s question, nodding along as she explained herself. “ I only have twenties on me - but I’ll happily buy you a coffee. And some food if you’re hungry. ” she offered with the friendliest smile she could muster up. “ Did you call a locksmith or something? ”

“You know what? Forget about it,” she waved her off before shaking her head no in answer. “Nah, I won’t bother them with something like this. I’ll have to somehow break in without freaking out my brothers,” she said with a light laugh.

Laughing lightly at the flirting, she did blush a little at the compliment. “What a line,” she said lightly. There was a pause as she tried to come up with conversation, usually she was able to make some easy quip, but not when it comes to flirting. “What’s got you all dolled up?” she finally asked.

Liza gave her a close-lipped smile. “Even if I were to buy some ‘cheap ass bottle of alcohol’ it wouldn’t be any of your damn business.” She wasn’t using the money for that reason, but Liza didn’t think she had to prove herself otherwise.

Ash knew he only had a few bucks in his wallet.  As much as he’d like to help the girl next to him, he needed to use the money to pick up another loaf of bread instead.  “As much as I’d like to fuel your caffeine addiction, I don’t have any cash on me,”  He lied.  “Even if you don’t buy anything, sitting inside the coffee shop is a good way to warm up.”  Ash might not be able to buy her coffee, but he could at least offer some advice for staying warm in the freezing winter months.

She shook her head at his advice. “Too many people in one place, I get all weird,” she said as her excuse. “You know what? Forget it.” She waved it off and offered a smile. She could always try the next person. “Coffee’s not really my drink of choice anyways.”

Narrowing her eyes towards the small redhead, the blonde woman pursed her lips. “What is it that you’re asking of me, exactly? Hmm?” She raised her eyebrows as she waited for a response. Gwendolyn was unsure of what the other wanted her to do, not that it would have made much difference to the outcome. The woman was cold and had little room for charity.

“Money,” she deadpanned. “I was asking for a few dollars.” She had to keep herself from rolling her eyes at the look the older woman gave her. Now that Liza thought about it, this woman seemed to be the last person she should ask, but it’s too late. At this point, it didn’t hurt to give it try and see what happens.

“-It happens,” she said quickly, a little too defensive when he questioned her, but when she saw him pull out his wallet, she had to hide the grin at the sight before quickly pocketing the few dollars. “You’re the best, I’m sure I can come up with a way to make it up to you.”

Liza, nodded as if she agreed. “It’ll have to depend if the food is good enough.” At the girl’s question, she looked down at the very few items in her hands and shrugged. “My brothers, they wanted something for Christmas and I felt bad that I couldn’t get exactly what they wanted, so I’m using tip money to get a few more small things for them,” she shrugged in answer. “You?”

“You think I could bum a few bucks off of you?” Liza started with a smile. “I was locked out of the house last night- forgot my keys- and I’m freezing my ass off and nothin’ but a good cup of coffee could cure it.” She made sure to hug herself as if to shield from the cold to make herself as convincing as possible.

The girl’s compliment had earned herself a grin. “You’re pretty easy on the eyes yourself. I’m Liza,” she said.
