Mathematical and Scientific Markings on Rustic Pottery by Laura C. Hewitt
Designed in rural Alaska, artist Laura C. Hewitt’s rustic, handmade pottery is influenced by the magic found within the mundane, nature and its pragmatic obscurity. Embossed with typographical mappings of the universe, mathematical formulas, and technological charts, Hewitt’s work pays homage to the dichotomy of the union between science and art.
Adorned with patterns, which include alpha numeric marks from vintage machinist punches and inlaid drawings reminiscent of maps, circuit board, astronomy and flow charts running into deeply carved organic river markings, each piece is unique.
Chronicling binary numbers, the distance from sun, the solar year and equatorial diameter of all planets, Ohm’s law, and the mapping of a circuit board among other technical formulas, each creation is Wheel thrown and hand carved. The vintage manual typewriter keys markings add a rustic and agrarian sensibility, which create a profound juxtaposition with the numerical values of technology in Hewitt’s pottery. You can find her entire collection in her Etsy shop.

The 1001 KNIGHTS ANTHOLOGY KICKSTARTER is LIVE !!!
1001 Knights is a massive 3-volume anthology project focusing on creating people-positive characters with feminist overtones. Over the course of 3 volumes, 250+ artists explore themes about what it means to be a knight and what makes for a strong character through illustration, comics, poetry, and prose. The artists involved have worked long and hard to create meaningful art that will uplift and inspire readers. 1,001 knights will be represented between all 3 volumes, including fictional characters and the contributing artists. In order to make this the coolest and most epic anthology we can dream of, we need your help! All money raised will go towards making the book and compensating the participating artists. 1001 Knights is created & curated by Annie Stoll & Kevin Jay Stanton.

Santa's Reindeer in Silly Animated Images
December has arrived! Of course, you must be wondering what the magical culture at the North Pole is upto. Well, let's give you a hint: lots of red and greens, dancing, and gift wrapping. Santa's probably busy organizing his logistics, but his reindeer appear to be up to something... derpy!
Stackable Animal Ring Hugs by Bangkok-based Merry Me
Merry Me is Mary Lou, a Thai-based jewelry maker with a unique moniker for a charming jewelry brand. It's wearable art; now that stackable rings are in, Mary Lou managed to cleverly infuse animal hugs into her jewelry.
Bright Colors and Characters in Sophie Filomena's Digital Art
I adore Sophie Filomena's digital work. Her creations are youthful, vibrant and highly stylized. She has the knack of mixing strong, rich hues with intimate and personal themes; I love the contrast! Here are some of her editorial works (and a few personal ones) for your inspiration:
Into Lara Paulussen's Illustrated Forest Finery
There is magic happening in the thick, dense forests of Lara Paulussen's making. The Germany-based illustrator, an avid fan of tea, books, gardens and the things in between, depicts lovely landscapes into moving graphic animations. I find that she has a keen eye for the little details; the fluttering of the insect's wings, the dance of the grass, the hopping of the frogs. All these are eloquently expressed in finely textured illustrations, like a slice of life in nature's drama.
Sad Ghosts, Night Walks And Melancholies in Cute Comics
Halloween isn't here yet, but let this be your first nightmare-ish treat. Don't get me wrong; ghosts have nightmares too, like this particularly cute one made by designers / entrepreneurs Lize Meddings and Laura Cox.
Adventures Under the Fabric by Monica Rohan
I enjoy Monica Rohan's work. Under the piles of sheets, there seems to be a lot going on; a sort of topsy-turvy while a character adjusts to one position. Think of finding the best side to sleep. The depicted narrative looks so simple: one just gets covered with a full bed cover, but the colors and the composition makes it appear as if one is going through a tough struggle.
The Thrill of Nature in Monika Forsberg's Art
Thank you for your returning love for this blog. It's been a week or two since I last made a post, and while my brain has been ON/OFF regarding this writing direction, I find myself always coming back to that little romance of mine: of art. Today, let me share you the work of Swedish artist Monika Forsberg. It's beckoning me to write all about her, even with such a short piece. I know you'll agree.
Doodles Come Alive in Daniel Shaffer's Work
Time for some fun, because I think Daniel Shaffer is all about that. There are monsters and forest creatures, quirky strangers and talking watermelons in his world. If you think you're weird, you might be a good fit.
Life Tidbits And Naughty Nuggets In Grace Helmer's Art
Small Hours comic artist Grace Helmer is a gem. Her illustrations are active stories with a dash of nostalgia, ringing about in vibrant summer days downtown or at the countryside. Looking at her work is relaxing, making me imagine how laid-back a person Grace might be.
High Hairs by Melly-Em Clark
Confidence boost, girls; on your majestic manes. Illustrator Melly-Em Clark does an artwork for her back-combed beauties (you know who you are, now slow down on that spray net!). While I hardly pinned my hair like a tower, I too, know the difficulties of having a lion's mane atop my wee little head. But who says it ain't beautiful?
