MercyMiMi Cards
Hooray! Our business cards just arrived on Friday! We’re all set to pass these babies out to mermaid-lovers everywhere!
Mercy MiMi Meetup!
The "Oh Mercy MiMi" creators John & Sarah finally met up in person, after working together online for almost 2 years!! At the beach, no less...We even spotted some mermaids swimming at the pier! (Okay, perhaps they were just UCSB coeds, but still!)
John came all the way from Buffalo, NY to attend the Central Coast Comic Con in Ventura, CA. The con started on Friday but we only bought tickets for today (Sunday). We don't have a booth but we're sure looking forward to mingling with other crazy comic enthusiasts! Hope we'll see some of you lovely mer-heads there! We’ll be posting photos from the con later hopefully!
Back from Unofficial Hiatus with New “Schedule”
Howdy folks! Sorry if you’ve been going nuts hankerin’ for some mermaid madness - we haven’t posted for a while due to responsibilities from our out-of-water lives! We still have a lot of exciting new comics, articles, and interviews in the works, but for the time being, we’re unable to commit to a weekly schedule.
So for now, we’ll update on a “whenever” schedule, posting whatever we have time to do - probably mostly concept art. We hope to be able to return to a weekly schedule at some point.
Stay tuned and follow us on social media to get your fix of your favorite silly mermaid sisters: Facebook: www.facebook.com/ohmercymimi Tumblr: ohmercymimi.tumblr.com/ Twitter: twitter.com/OhMercyMiMi

Concept Art: 3 Pages of Adorable MiMi Sketches by John Blake!
Hey hey whaddya say? Have you seen all the different sides of MiMi? Probably not! But you can see some of them in these pages of rough sketches featuring our favorite lil mermaid girl! Enjoy <3
Your pals,
- Johnny and Sarah
Oh Mercy MiMi Issue #58 - “Angler Tangle” Howdy folks! Hope you’re ready for another John Blake masterpiece, ‘cause here it is! In this week’s comic, MiMi has a very bright idea...Or is it the glowing lure of a predatory anglerfish? Here’s hoping your light bulbs are breakthroughs! Have a great week!
Your pals,
- Johnny and Sarah
Concept Art: Baby MiMi
Howdy folks! Johnny and I often say that Mercy MiMi is our baby, but do you ever wonder what MiMi looked like as an actual baby mermaid? She was a little beached whale calf--wasn’t she so adorable and chubby back then? (Oh wait...She still is!)
We’ll probably follow up later with more baby versions of Mercy MiMi characters!
Stay sweet and hope you’re having a great week!
Your pals,
- Johnny and Sarah
Oh Mercy MiMi Issue #57 - “She-Cart Shopper”
Hey now folks, what’s better than a hefty tax refund? A new MercyMiMi, of course (maybe!) In this super-colorful issue, MiMi may be a retail employee’s worst nightmare, but at least her nightmares don’t come true!
Hope you’re having a dreamy week!
Your pals,
- Johnny and Sarah
Fins Malone Fanart by Nemecio V. Camacho (NVC19) of deviantART
Why hello there folks! Today we have a splendid piece of fanart by our dear friend NVC19 of deviantART! He’s done a lovely pencil sketch of our notorious little Fins Malone (Mercy’s gangster moll alter ego) in a “selfie-style” portrait! Does she look cute and tough or what? Gotta love them pigtails and cheekbones!
Nemecio is quite the talented drawer, and his deviantART gallery boasts a number of awesome black and white drawings and sketches, of subjects from comic book heroes to classic movie monsters. Be sure to check him out!
Thanks again to NVC19 for doing this wonderful fanart of Ms. Malone!
Hope you’re all having a great week so far!
Your pals,
- Johnny and Sarah
Artist’s original caption: Here is the REALLY overdue Fins Malone drawing I have due for Oh Mercy, Mimi comic. I was having so much trouble with this one due to her design, mainly consisting with her being a Mermaid and her ...
Oh Mercy MiMi Issue #56 - “WebComics-ROCK Question 2”
How goes your week, mer-heads? Today, we have another comic response to an open-format question asked by WebComics-ROCK: “What would happen if your main protagonist and main antagonist switched roles?”
And well, it seems that the redheaded scoundrel captain would find himself deep underwater with some very unusual undergarments, while MiMi would find herself blessed with an instant “snack” but very little stability!
Hope you won’t find yourself a fish out of water this week!
Your pals,
- Johnny and Sarah
P.S. You can see our comic response to the first question here.
I had different things I wanted to draw tonight but then I saw it was Sarah’s birthday and the air raid sirens sounded and I sighed, put on my tin helmet and marched back into the fan-art war trenches.
The only time we’re not drawing each others characters is Christmas Day when we meet in no man’s land to play football this is a tough life :’(
Two Fan Comics from Alex Whitington (EggHeadCheesyBird)!!
What’s that I see in the distance? Not one, but TWO spectacular fan comics by the illustrious Mr. Alex Whitington, the comic artist/animator with whom we are engaged in a heated fan art war!
In the first comic, Alex illustrates Ramona’s uncanny habit of honing in on only the most important (read: jealousy-inducing) parts of her boyfriend Marky’s stories. In the second comic, MiMi indulges--no questions asked!--on poor Cipher’s tab!
Good show, kind sir! These fierce sneak attacks (I’m not sure why, but I didn’t see these wonderful creations until recently though Alex posted them back in December) are a grand victory for you, as Johnny and I are quite clobbered by your generosity in making these comic beauties that so aptly capture the spirit of our characters! But just you wait! We’ll recover and take another swing at your characters when you least expect it!
To learn more about Alex and his work, you can go look at the post for his first fan art for us, or you can follow the cool links below. In particular, I recommend you check out the new-ish comic that Alex is running with his collaborator Scobell titled “Amy Ook”, which features a hilarious cast of adorable humanoid animal kids!

As always, a heartfelt thanks to Sir Witty-ngton for bestowing these fab fan comics on us. Tell your characters to watch their backs!
Wishing a lovely weekend on you all...

Oh Mercy MiMi Issue #55 - “Muse Ruse”
Hey folks! What’s goin’ on? A new MercyMiMi, that’s what! In this week’s comic, John Blake reveals what happens when his inspiration runs dry...He consults his muse, the real-life MiMi! However, she’s anything but a comedic genius (or any kind of genius, for that matter!)
Hope your week is brimming with shrimp (or whatever makes you happy!)

Commission: 3D Full Body Plush of MiMi by Kerii of deviantART
Hi there mer-heads! Today we have something very different for you folks to enjoy! Several months ago, Johnny commissioned a talented young lady named Kerii (her deviantART handle is K3RI1) to make a plush doll of our favorite silly mermaid, MiMi! Kerii completed the doll and sent it to Johnny, and he took a nice little photoshoot with the lovely creation! Ain’t she adorable? Kerii did an awesome job--she even included MiMi’s famous buckteeth! The last photo is Johnny’s original MiMi character sheet for comparison.
If you enjoyed these photos, you’ll want to check out Kerii’s deviantART profile. Not only has she created countless 3D plushes of a great variety of different characters (e.g. from Pokemon, Star Trek, various animes, etc.), but her gallery also contains lots of her beautiful digital and traditional drawings, photography, and poetry! She’s another one of those multi-talented phenoms for sure! And she does commissions for both her plush doll work and drawings, so if you want her to make something for you, be sure to request a commission and support her wonderful work!
Thanks again, Kerii, for bringing our sweet MiMi to life! Best of luck to you in all your endeavors!
- Your pals,
-Johnny and Sarah
Oh Mercy MiMi Issue #54 - “WebComics-ROCK Question 1”
Hey there folks! This week we have something a little different! One of the deviantART groups we belong to, WebComics-ROCK , just started holding weekly “open format” questions for its members, which can be answered in the form of a comic. So we decided to give it a try for this week’s comic...Hope you enjoy and if you are a comic creator on deviantART, we highly recommend the WebComics-ROCK group--they give you a whole folder for your webcomic after you join!
Have a happy week!
Your pals,
- Johnny and Sarah
Comic Review: John K Presents: Spumco Comic Book
— Review by John Blake —
John K Presents: Spumco Comic Book (2013) is a collection of comics from the 90's as well as a new strip that has never been previously been released anywhere. The comics are by various Spümcø artists that have distinct but similar drawing styles.
You may notice a similarity between these comics and the Skadi comics by Katie Rice. This is because Katie learned her style from John K. and is a Spümcø alumna. She isn't involved in these comics, as she didn’t join the Spümcø team until years later, but it's hard not to notice the similarities in style between these and the Skadi comics.
Story-wise, these comics are very different from Skadi, however. The stories are set in modern times, in an American town, and focus mainly on two characters:
- George Liquor, a bizarre, ultra conservative, ultra-American blowhard, and
- George's nephew, Jimmy the Idiot Boy, a well-meaning but very stupid teenage boy. He does not talk but often makes various sounds and exaggerated expressions to communicate.
There are other minor characters as well, but all the stories revolve around those two in some way or another. A bit of a warning for those sensitive to what might be consider objectionable content: George and Jimmy have been around since the late 70's and became more famously known after appearing in the early 90's on Ren and Stimpy, but in this collection, they are the original, unfiltered versions of the characters. So, if you are used to the more restrained, TV-safe versions of George and Jimmy, you may find these comics to be a bit too raunchy and you may be shocked by the content.
The stories themselves are very strange and sometimes very dark, but even the darkness is portrayed in a lighthearted way, as is often the case in things released by Spumco. One of the longer stories features Jimmy working as a Turtle Food Collector—someone who finds insects and collects them to feed starving turtles. It’s a very simple plot, but this is a story that mainly focuses on all the bizarre gags such a silly concept can bring about. Another one features George giving Jimmy a remote control. This is pretty much the whole plot, just Jimmy doing this and that with a remote control. This is how these stories generally go—the authors take a concept and fill the plot with as many jokes as they can around that concept. I think that the amount that the authors can do with such simple plots is amazing and definitely one of the strengths of this comic collection.
However, I feel that the best part of these comics is the art, as it is one of my personal favorite types—exaggerated and cartoony done at its very best. The only “problem” I could see with the art is how it seems to go back and forth between being in color and being in black and white, for seemingly no reason. While this doesn't really bother me personally, I see how it could bother some people.
I highly recommend this book but with caution, it can be quite disturbing at times and should only be read by people who have or can understand a sick sense of humor and who may already be a fan of John K 's work! That being said, this is a great collection of great comics!

Oh Mercy MiMi Issue #53 - “Mate and Switch”
Hey there folks! We all know that Mercy enjoys hitching a ride on her sea turtle boyfriend Topher, but what you may not know is that MiMi sometimes tries to be a stand-in!
Hope you enjoy and have a great week!
Your pals,
- Johnny and Sarah
Oh Mercy MiMi Issue #52 - “Love Bites”
Hey there folks! Would you have ever guessed that our dear, sweet little MiMi is a bit of a homewrecker? Well, she is, but not exactly in the way you'd think!
Hope you have a great week!
- Johnny and Sarah
Oh Mercy MiMi Issue #51 - “Coming Soon”
Howdy mermaid-heads! Sorry for the lack of posts lately, but we've been going out of our minds because MiMi went missing...Apparently, our big mermaid pulled a "Little Mermaid" on us and has been hiding on land!
Hope you're having a yummy week!
