Help My Family Battle the Cost of Living and Wind Damage

Boozhoo, Aaniin (Hello, Hi, in Anishinaabemowin),

My name is Kachina and my family and I currently live in Southern Ontario, where the cost of living has skyrocketed. My family and I are Indigenous, and we are seriously struggling to eat, as Covid dramatically impacted our finances and now the cost of food is making it difficult to keep up on bills. I know so many people are in the same situation, and my family is not special, but we still could use some help.

Any financial help will go directly toward food, our mortgage, and repairing serious wind damage that removed the siding from our house this past December. We currently do not have enough money to meet the deductible from our insurance company, and would greatly appreciate any help making up that income. Our current goal is raising 1000 dollars, and doing so would greatly help us.

If you are unable to donate, I would greatly appreciate spreading this post around so others may see it.

Help a Two Spirit Woman Finish Her Degree

Hey everyone! My name is Kachina, and due to some serious mental health issues, I quit school three years into my degree, and flunked most of my classes that year. As I was ready to commit suicide, I didn’t care about the marks or the classes. Luckily, I had a very strong support system and was able to get the help I needed.

Now, seven years later (in the original post I thought it was only five, but after looking through documentation, I realize I took SEVEN years to return. Oops lol), I am finally medicated and a lot healthier. I am more mature and even excited to go back to school and finish what I started. I am majoring in Indigenous Studies and the books for my program can be quite expensive. I’d really appreciate it if anyone who would like to help me pay for some of the supplies and books would donate to my Kofi account.

I know the world is insane right now, and I am one fish in the sea of many looking for help. I am extremely grateful to anyone who does donate, and helps me out. For anyone interested, I want to become an English language teacher, but I also want to become fluent in my traditional language, and the University I go to has a fluent speaker I am taking classes with. It would be amazing one day if I became fluent and could give back to not just my community, but many others, and help produce Anishinaabemowin speakers.

The septic tank of her home is completely on its last leg and she cannot do laundry on her property and cannot take regular showers. Without a stable job, due to COVID, she cannot save up money for the project and she is ineligible for loans due to her income. Please help her out! It would mean the world to me. <3

last resort cry for help?

I really don’t want to do this, and I wouldn’t, but I don’t know what else to do.

Today (1/22/19) I got pulled over for expired tags (that I couldn’t pay because I got fired from my previous job in November) and now owe $127 for that ticket by January 30th, eight days from now.

To pay the expired tags so I don’t get another ticket and possibly lose my license or get my car impounded, and therefore have no way to get to my job or appointments besides walking half an hour there and back in single-digit temperatures, I also owe $133.

This is on top of my regular bills. I also owe $350 for rent on my apartment, $91 for my heat and lights, and $90 for my internet. I’ve notified these places and let them know my situation but the most I could accomplish was getting the non-rent ones pushed back to Feb. 20th and my rent back to the 6th instead of the 1st.

Now, I’m gonna be honest, I have nothing to offer anyone, I just don’t know where else to turn. I have very little when it comes to marketable skills, I’m just a poor unfortunate bi with awful mental health that doesn’t know how she’s gonna stay afloat. and even a dollar or two would mean so much. I can’t tell you how grateful I’d be.

Paypal is here, and I’ll be sure to keep this updated, again there is no pressure to donate a cent, but i figured I’d give it a go. Thank you, I love you all <3
