I almost stopped her, but it didn't seem to bother anyone else and she was making great contributions to the discussion.

A few weeks later she handed me a funky knitted scarf with a note. The note thanked me for letting her knit during class. Doing something with her hands reduced her anxiety about talking in front of her peers. She was proud of how confident talking during discussions had made her.
