It's insane watching a professional manga artist using digital drawing tools for weekly manga.

Gladion and his Silvally ready to bring the heat! 

He’s definitely my favorite character in Sun/Moon. Not to mention Silvally is my favorite gen 7 Pokemon so far!

Here’s the process I used for the Gladion and Silvally illustration. Getting used to saving them more frequently to flesh out the process more.

[1:] Sketching Silvally was the hard part mostly because it was the first time I tackled it. But I had lots of fun with it once it was coming together. I hadn’t decided what RKS typing to give it when I started out. [2:] The dreaded lineart, this always takes the longest to finish, but it’s worth it if the colors aren’t super vibrant so the lines and effort become more visible.

[3:] Base colors were easy, but it was a little hard not letting Gladion and Silvaly’s dark colors mesh together. I wanted to keep them separate enough so it would be easy to tell the two apart from another.

[4:] Cell shading is fun and relaxing~! Ended up going back to Silvally’s RKS color scheme in the base colors. The red from fire typing is the most visually striking imho.

[5:] Played more with painting and adding highlights. Messed with watercoloring here before I added the finishing touches. [6:] Added the Battle Royal background to get the most out of the intense lighting effects, along with a little steam and the flaring of Silvally’s RKS colors. Even though it’s a simple touch, I love the light streaks from the headlights.

I was given permission to post the process too for the Wild Arms commission! Not many steps saved between the coloring phases, I’ll remember to save more for the future for more interesting process steps.
