Like a filthy bucket of water.
I've always thought of myself as a rather progressive person. But lately things feel like they haven't been going anywhere, just kind of standing still, becoming more and more of a routine rather than a life. Dare I say it, life itself has become stagnant and I hate it.
It's so easy to lose yourself in what you do whether it be school, work or just keeping up with your "social life." It's that feeling of comfort, I think, in knowing what comes next that makes it so easy to just let things be. I've always had this unsettling feeling inside me that I never could identify until recently when I had a conversation with a friend of mine that I rarely see and haven't just sat down and talked to in forever. It was then I realized what that unsettling feeling was, and it was that I was settling (oOooOOoo kind of dramatic huh), settling for something less than what I'm aiming for.
While I was talking to him, the "must ask" question inevitably came up, "So, what have you been up to?" As I was answering, it occurred to me that I had a "go to" answer for that "must ask" question that I always recite from what feels like memory. "Oh you know, the normal stuff.. school, work... etc." but I didn't stop there. I started telling him about where my focus is, and what I plan on doing, and what I want to do and it made me realize that I haven't been attempting to take the next step. I have an idea, a plan, but I'm just letting it sit there.
To make a long story short, it turns out, that he's been looking for a person with my interests and focus and was actually doing something relating to my type of work. This random meeting was probably the best thing to happen to get me out of this rut I've been in because now I feel like I have something to work for, a purpose, a goal even. Now I'm just excited and I'm starting to feel the passion that I felt like I was losing.
So, I guess the point of this is, don't just sit there like a bucket of water. Yeah, it's not harming anyone, but it's not helping anyone either and before you know it you just start to stagnate and get all moldy. Pretty soon you're just going to start evaporating and start losing yourself (how's that for a fucking simile). So stir things up a bit. Don't lose sight of what you're aiming for just because things are good as they are right now.
To further prevent myself from writing cliché after cliché I leave it at this, stagnation is just dirty bro. Don't do it!
