@okayhads !
it’s not a typical first date, most people choose something practical like dinner, the movies, or even somewhere more secluded like their own house. but, oliver’s not one to do practical things. never has been, really. the last time he took a girl out on a date they’d gone sky diving, thus, making him realize that he might just have to tone it down a little for hadley. so, they’re at the petting zoo. he isn’t a fan of actual zoo’s, finding that they were more cruel than they were doing the animals any good. he didn’t plan on keeping them here all day, a couple other stops in his mind were planned out for their official first date. but, right now, he couldn’t contain his excitement at the sight of pigs. hadley knows he loves pigs more than anything. — “i’m honestly more excited than i should be,” he leans down close to her to speak, noticing the many children who were running around with happy expressions. — “i feel like a child again,” he chuckles, then, offers his arm for her to take. the first step in their long line of friendship that would transfer them from this to that. — “what do you want to see first? heard the goats are pretty cute.”
it’s unusual - - the idea of a first date between two people who know quite a lot about each other. there’s no pretense , and certainly no way to hide behind that ‘first date haze.’ it’s liberating and terrifying at the same time. it’s why hadley finds herself fidgeting with her fingers , shifting her weight from one foot to the other , and stealing glances over at her date. of course , many anxieties regarding the day were eliminated as soon as oliver revealed their first destination for the day. in fact, the prospect of seeing ( and petting ) as many barnyard animals as possible had brought a wide grin to hadley’s face, putting a bounce in her step. it made her more hopeful than ever that this would be good - - because he gets her. they get each other. at oliver’s comment , she gives him a little shake of her head , laughter bubbling out of her lips. ❝ oh, come on ! stupid levels of enthusiasm are the best. it makes everyone around you excited ! ❞ she exclaims , looking over as he offers his arm. she doesn’t hesitate for long before her hand comes to rest against the crook of his elbow , beaming brightly ❝ you heard the goats are pretty cute ? is that the word on the street ? the down - low on the petting zoo ? how do i go about getting a petting zoo informant ? ❞ she teases, waggling her brow and giving his arm a squeeze. ❝ goats it is - - maybe , if you’re lucky , i’ll tell you about the summer i spent on a farm. looots of goats in that story. or we can make a beeline for the pigs, because i know where your heart’s at. ❞
