All media is propaganda, yet when we say "porn is propaganda" everyone loses the ability to think critically and turns off their brains. It isn't that porn magically makes you misogynist (or that refusing to engage with it makes you automatically not misogynist), but to pretend porn has zero effect on people in a way no other media does is clearly unserious.
i dont think anyone believes it has zero effect on people- we're responding to the way it gets singled out. youre right in saying all media is propaganda. it is! but there is a wave pushing to ban and restrict access to porn- both among the far right and ostensibly liberal-left feminists- where there isn't for, say, sitcoms or advertisements.
trust me there are a lot of porn tropes i hate, and a lot of porn that i wish didnt exist. and of course like all media it can and does perpetuate biases, and i do think that trends in the genre and companies making it deserve critique! but its frankly silly and short sighted to focus on porn above more material goals like the wage gap, spousal abuse, and systemic misogyny in spaces like the sciences and politics. especially when there's currently a fascist wave of anti-porn rhetoric used to restrict queer expression and criminalize women in sex work.
if you as a feminist are raging against the concept of pornography, especially now, i think you need to reconsider the materialism of your feminism and how much your ideology is built on a disgust response.
