Assignment 5
The fifth chapter of Shore's book is about the concept of mental modeling. Photography is not just about snapping a one time photo and being done. A true photographer must first picture the image that he or she wants to create and try and emulate that through the camera. However, sometimes this does not work out and post-production allows the photographer to manipulate the image to suit his or her fancy. However, by mentally modeling the picture first, the photo that is produced is much more impressive and meaningful than if one had just simply snapped a photo of an event. It is important that we, even as amateur photographers try and visualize the image in our minds before taking it. That way it will have more meaning.

Life in the City By Eddy Leiva
I love the simplicity in this photo. The fact that there is so much going on, yet because there is a shallow depth of field focused in on the flower, your mind is not overwhelmed by the fact that there truly is a lot of activity in the background. I also love the use of light to bring color to the photo. The flower itself is somewhat devoid of color, so the lights being out of focus and showing up as different color flecks makes the photo more pleasing to the eye.

Assignment 4
I love this picture! Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
I really like this photo because it almost starts out like it is going to be in black and white but there are some pops of color when it comes to her accessories. I think that this is just a regal photo without being similar to what we see as typical royalty.
Assignment 4
The reason why a photo exists on a mental level is because it is a still capture of a dynamic moment. Thus, the viewer must infer many details about the time and place of the photo as well as the subject. Because the viewer did not actually see the exact moment when the photo was taken, he or she can only imagine what was going on. Therefore, there is so much more room for interpretation and growth of the photo into something it might not have become. So, even though the photo exists on a mental level, it propels the art much further because the photo is free to develop into anything.

Brush Crash

I enjoy this picture because of how it captures motion in still time. I also enjoy the juxtaposition of the dark background with the colorful powders. Everything in this photo is either a bland color or one that is very vibrant. I also like how the lighting is reflecting off of the brushes which is creating a magical element. I almost feel like this is imitating splatter painting which is quite interesting.
Assignment 3
Even though a photographer does the simple motion of pressing a button to take a picture, a lot of thought needs to be put into the composition so that the author can display the right message with his or her work. The subject needs to be in focus, or blurry, depending on what the photographer is trying to display. Plus the photograph needs to be taken at the appropriate moment. While some people are able to capture good candid shots, most photographers need to be ready to snap a picture at that perfect moment when all physical aspects align. So, while it may not carry the same skills as painting, photography is still an art form that needs to be taken seriously. There are many factors that go into making the perfect image.Â
I like this picture because it is ethereal in nature. There is something quite magical about the time when this picture was taken because the sun is just going down so night and day are coexisting together. I like that the color in this photo is faded because it adds to a vintage and romantic feel. Also, because the subject was shot from an upward angle, it makes the photo have depth and makes the sky seem vast because the angle is pointed upward.
Assignment 2
Even though a photograph is a flat tangible object with definite edges, there truly is no one plane on which it exists. Because of a picture’s color and lighting, there is a lot more depth portrayed in a static image. The angle can also affect the depth of an image. If you are shooting from an angle that is dead on with your subject, the picture might lose depth and emphasis. However, if you were to shoot the subject from a different angle, one not common, the photo will have more effect.
When taking photos by chance or with intent, the meaning behind the photo changes. While some intent photos can capture a candid moment, most of them are done so that they look perfect. Metaphorically, it portrays a society in which everything is perfect at all times. Pictures are forever and history will see perfection when they look back. However, with chance pictures, it shows society that is a little more chaotic and more real. It shows that people are human and that they make mistakes, including photographers.
