city living.
With stuff going on I totally forgot to post this. I did a little animated loop for @ricepapermag to accompany ”tuned in”, a poem by Johnnie Regalado. Check out the poem here:

As a black artist, I want to make sure that along with all of the stupid things that I draw, I continue drawing and speaking on topics that are important to me.
I’m glad we still have heroes. I’m glad we still have people speaking out against all of the atrocities happening to my people on a daily basis; and to other beautiful brown people around this country and around the world. Im glad we have people there to advocate for those of the LGBT communities & any other community seen as ‘less than’ in the eyes of society.
I’m glad we have advocates who understand that ALL shades, tones & hues are beautiful, and ALL people no matter who you are deserve a voice and UNDENIABLY equal rights. This is a ‘Thank you’ to the voices for the voiceless. To the protestors. To anyone who listens.
We’re still working. We’re still fighting.
(not so) Stupid-ass-drawing-a-day Challenge 131/365: Take a Knee ——– I’ve tagged some of those strong voices in this photo. If you know of any others, leave them in the comments! We need to form stronger, more accepting communities in any way we can . . . . . #iartsometimes #stupidassdrawingadaychallenge #istandwithkap #takeaknee #blacklivesmatter #digitalsketchbook #animation #drawingchallenge #nfl #blackart #illustration #blackartist #takeakneenfl #kap #colinkaepernick #420 #drumpf #trump #49ers #america #boycottnfl #football #chains #jcole #knee #kneel #nationalanthem #blackpower #fist #blackpowerfist

Screencaps from an article about two brother’s reaction to the news coverage of their father murdering their mother and sister.
Why is it so common to ask random strangers about murderers, and get quotes about how they’re “nice” and “caring” - people who didn’t even know them personally?
Imagine if you were in their position and you had a family member who’d been abusive for years, and now you’re seeing some random neighbor describing them as “nice” or “polite” all over the news, as if their opinion has any relevance whatsoever.
It ends up creating the same narrative every time, painting the abuser in a sympathetic light.
That whole article is worth a read and just so heartbreaking. The brothers want to start raising awareness about different kinds of DV because they say several times they didn’t realize they were all being abused, because no one was being hit.
