It’s the European Championships Week! 

In 1975, 40 years ago, the ECh were held in Skien, Norway. 

That was the first competition for a gymnast, who was about to mark the history of sport. 

Fun fact: she wasn’t even supposed to go to Skien because she wasn’t the best gymnast of her Romanian club. 

“When in Club Dynamo decided they’d only use  two of their three gymnasts for the competition, Bela attained the unfilled third spot for me. I went on to win four gold medals, including the all-around European title. Lyudmila Turischeva, the current world and Olympic champion, was beaten by a little girl who had put aside every neative emotion and simply concentrated on being her best.”

Vlasta Děkanová

The first ever woman to win an all around title at World Championships. 

WAG was introduced in the Worlds program in 1934, in Budapest (HUN) as team final and all around final. 

Vlasta became 4 times world champion in 1934 and 1938 both with the  Czechoslovak team and all around.

I don't know if this is the right place to post this but you asked where the gymnasts were from in the pic I posted, and I think they are from the Afon Taf school in Wales from 1976 or 1977.

Rome gives up to the 2020 Olympics

Italian governement has decided not to support the submission of Rome for the 2020 Olympics, and I agree.

We're not economically ready yet and we can't take such a big risk.

The fact that budget of this year Olympics is widely passed and what Greece has to face nowadays after 2004 are examples that scared the most of our Country. 

Fortunately this is not the last chance to apply, we could do it for future Games, like 2024 or 2028, when our economical situation will be fixed.

Btw, our Prime Minister is going to make the final decision this afternoon but many news agencies report that he'll say no.

Well, the plot is not so peculiar: the typical normal girl who beat the stronger and blonder one on the floor exercise that is a mix of artistic and rhythmic -I don't know if it's due to ignorance or it's wanted, but I think that the whole result is not so bad.

Did I mention that the girl in blue leotard is Sofia Coppola?

Rome 2020

The Italian Government has just approved the plan for the nomination of Rome 2020.

As everyone knows at the moment Italy is in a not so good economical situation, but they said that this won't weigh on the public cost (due to private sponsorships) and could raise GDP 1.4%.

Organizing the Olympics is a matter of pride and I would be happy if we'll made it but what scares me the most is the fact that Greece has begun its economical decline after the Games in 2004, but the Italian Olympic Committee underlined that these would be sober Games.

The host city of the 2020 Olympics will be decided in 2013. The other cities that compete against Rome are: Madrid, Tokyo, Doha, Istambul and Baku.
