Congratulations to Tagah for being the only man to get the avatar to fall in love with him twice
I was looking into nomadic tribes of Eurasia, as one does, and I’m pretty confident that this is where the writers got Shan Yu’s name from.
But interestingly Chanyu seems to be a title instead of a name. The era Mulan supposedly takes place in happens after the title would’ve fallen out of use and so it probably is just a reference BUT…
The idea of Shan Yu only using his title and hiding his real name while “Ping” does the same has so much potential.
Best scene in the movie idk about y’all

I like TigerFire but only when it’s funny.
Like Fireheart trying to throw Tigerclaw’s suspicious off of him in the early books, but he can only think of buttering him up. But Tiger thinks he’s flirting and goes through a midlife crisis about it and can’t focus on his evil plans anymore so Fire does it more thinking their besties now and he can spy on him.
Of course everyone else in the clan thinks they’re together and it just feeds into itself until Tiger finally combusts and dies of a heart attack.

(This is a part 2 to the first TigerFire post i made earlier. I think this one's better written, even if a bit stale in places. :3)
"Hey! Did you even hear me?" Fireheart jumped as his best friend's unusually agitated voice pierced his thoughts. "Great Starclan, Fireheart. If I didn't know any better, I'd think you were still an apprentice with dreams of grandeur!" Graystripe Snarled. Fireheart opened his mouth to retort, but realized that he couldn't. The truth was, Graystripe was right. "I-Im sorry. I really am, I don't know what's gotten into me."
Looking down at his paws, he knew that was only half true. But he still couldn't bring himself to say it so brazenly. Graystripe sighed. "We both know that isn't true. You've been in your own world since you emerged from the nursery the other morning." Graystripe's voice was softer now, but no less serious. He reached out and put one of his paws on Fireheart's. "Look. . ." Graystripe started awkwardly when Fireheart met his gaze. He'd never been the best with his words, but he couldn't say nothing. "I know I haven't been perfect myself. You said something when you thought I was making a mistake. It's my turn now, and Fireheart— I think you're making a huge mistake."
Fireheart's heart sank. He hadn't expected today to go this direction. He couldn't help but remember the fights he and Graystripe had over Silverstream. Fireheart prayed it wouldn't come to that. . . "I understand how you feel, Graystripe, but he's not nearly as bad as he seems! He's.. he's nice when you get to know him! He-" Graystripe was already shaking his head. "That's not the problem, Fireheart. You can't actually be that dense."
When Fireheart met his gaze blankly, Graystripe cursed under his breath. "Okay, well, first off, he is quite literally old enough to be your father. Doesn't that bother you? Does that not feel at all odd?" Graystripe only paused a moment, before carrying on. "Plus, you know exactly what he did. To Redtail, to Ravenpaw..."
Fireheart pulled his paw away and looked around uncomfortably, hoping that no one was listening in. Dragging his gaze across the clearing, could see that his clanmates were still sharing tongues merrily, unaware of— A familiar tabby pelt stole his attention away. Tigerclaw lay on the other side of the clearing by himself, a small rabbit between his massive paws. Fireheart couldn't help but admire him, and the way the quickly setting sun shone through the trees onto his luxuriously thick fur. . . Fireheart's gaze wandered upwards until it rested on his prey-stained muzzle. He watched, transfixed, as Tigerclaw swiped his tongue once over those glimmering, sharp canines. . . Fireheart's gaze instinctually drifted upwards, only to discover that Tigerclaw's eyes were locked on him. He looked hungry.
Fireheart snapped his head back towards Graystripe. He was suddenly aware of how hard his heart was beating, and how hot he felt under his pelt. "I d-don't see why any of this matters," Fireheart stammered. "It's not like he would ever feel the same way." Graystripe squinted at Fireheart. He didn't need to look to know what his friend had seen. Graystripe could pretty well guess from how Fireheart was fidgeting.
"You may be the most mouse-brained cat I've ever met." Graystripe murmured after a moment. He could see that there was no arguing with Fireheart now. He did his best, but it clearly wasn't enough. All he could do now is be here for him when it innevitably fell through. Until then, though, his orange friend would need to learn the lessons first-paw. "I won't argue anymore. Just be safe, okay?"
Fireheart opened his mouth to speak, but found that he had no words. He simply stretched his neck out, and touched noses with Graystripe.
With little more to say, Fireheart got up and wove his way through throngs of cats towards the dark brown tabby that he had once considered his mortal enemy. Tigerclaw looked rather pleased as Fireheart approached, tail stood tall in greeting. "Ah, I was hoping you'd stop by." Tigerclaw's deep mew greeted Fireheart's ears like an old friend. "Hungry?" He pointed to the half eaten rabbit with his muzzle.
Settling in, maybe a bit closer than he needed to, Fireheart sniffed at the prey. His stomach complained loudly. Fireheart realized that he couldn't remember the last time he ate. Tigerclaw pushed the rabbit closer, the tantalizing scent making Fireheart's mouth water. Tearing a strip from the rabbit, Fireheart barely cared that it tasted stale. It might as well have been the tastiest prey he'd ever had until then. "Say," Tigerclaw started, gazing down at Fireheart, whose mouth was still full. "How would you feel about training sometime tomorrow? like old times. I want to see how much Bluestar taught you."
Swallowing, Fireheart looked up and locked gazes with Tigerclaw once again. For a moment, it felt like nothing else in this world existed except for the warmth those eyes of his betrayed. Images of Tigerclaw's battle prowess flickered through his mind. The blood, the decisive strikes, those muscles... for less than a split second, Fireheart couldn't help but imagine what it would be like for those teeth to sink into his flesh.
He wouldn't have time to ponder these odd thoughts until later, though. If he had answered, Fireheart hadn't realized he had. "Good." Tigerclaw purred. "Meet me in the training hollow at sunhigh. Until then, you can keep me company. Sound good, Kittypet?"
Fireheart could sense the affection in his tone this time.
And he craved it.
Tigerclaw comes back to camp one day just. covered in blood. Maybe there was a border skirmish, or maybe he was asked to help drive off a fox? Doesn't really matter! Whatever the reason, it happened. Upon entering camp, Tigerclaw looks around, spots Fireheart, maybe gives him a slight nod and smirk, and pads towards bluestar's den to report.
To Fireheart's credit, he doesn't immediately swoon, but he is definitely overcome by some typa' feeling. I mean, cats can't really blush, but. . .
That same night, Fireheart lay awake in his nest. He can't get that look out of his mind— the way he acted so nonchalant about it all. He truely was one capable cat. Only minutes later did he catch himself daydreaming while staring at the massive moving form nearby. The rise and fall of that freshly groomed tabby coat, and a flash of glimmering white and red teeth which he could picture so vividly.. This only brought more disturbing thoughts to Fireheart's tired mind. Why was he so caught up thinking about this? It was nothing! Just a glance, just a smirk, just- Tigerclaw.
Maybe it was coincidence, or perhaps Fireheart knew from the very second those amber eyes met his that day. Either way, he found himself talking about it to someone who knew best about . . . this.
"Crush??" Fireheart felt the word roll off his tongue. It almost felt terrifying. "Yeah, vro." Graystripe mewed through a mouthful of vole. "That sounds like how I felt when I met Silverstream. Say, are you going to finish that?" Fireheart pushed the remains of his chaffinch toward his friend. "Why are you acting so- so unsurprised? This is Tigerclaw we're talking about, remember?"
Graystripe looked up from his meal, incredulity in his gaze. He said nothing. "What??"
About a moon later, Fireheart was in the nursery. Goldenflower had requested that he kitsit while she and Tigerclaw had an outing of their own, and he was more than happy to oblige. Now, with the kits snuggled up in his fur, finally asleep after hours of play, he felt content. Well, exhausted, but definitely content. Was this what it was like to be a father?
It was just past moonhigh when a swish of heather interrupted Fireheart's light dozing. Tigerclaw's muscular figure approached, his handsome eyes shimmering, even in the dimness. Fireheart felt Tigerclaw slide into the nest beside him. This could be my chance..!
But as Fireheart went to speak, words did not come. All he could think about was the sensation of Tigerclaw's luxurious fur, and how it was currently brushing along his spine... Perhaps it could wait another day. Why ruin a good thing?
Not long later, Goldenflower padded in silently. Taking up a spot beside the both of them. "Thank you, Fireheart," Goldenflower's soft voice made him feel warm. "I really needed that." Tigerclaw finally spoke up. He sounded gruff as ever, but his words still managed to tickle Fireheart's brain without the need for softened tone. "Our kits are in safe paws. That's all we can ask for."
Fireheart felt a tongue begin to rasp comfortingly over his ear. He wasn't sure whose it was, but he didn't mind. He liked it regardless. If this is how they treat their friends... The thought trailed off, and he pressed himself closer to Tigerclaw's body, feeling his heartbeat. . .
As Fireheart began to drift off, he couldn't help but wonder if some of this was a little more than friendly affection. He subconsciously dismissed the thought. Wishful thinking.
OKAY SO LIKE THIS STARTED OUT AS A SILLY LITTLE SCENARIO AND IT GOT KIND OF OUT OF HAND. Sorry for how all over the place this is pffff. i love them <33
The soldier from the mountain is easily my favourite fic for Mulan and Shan Yu. I love forced proximity and having to work against a common enemy and I haven’t seen many other fics like it. I really hope it hasn’t been abandoned because I really want to see where it goes next.
I usually don’t really like age gaps ships with older men and younger women but there’s something so special about Shan Yu seeing Mulan as both a warrior and woman and respecting her all the same.
I good couple months ago I was introduced to Mulan x Shan Yu and I fell in love. But then I was introduced to the knowledge that Mulan is 16 in the movie (I was under the assumption she was early to mid twenties). I still really like their ship tho so I’ve got a headcanon/au/whatever to make me more comfortable with it:
Mulan is sixteen at the beginning of the movie and Shan Yu is mid thirties. The rest of the movie then spans about twelve years (in reference to the og ballad) so by the time they meet Mulan is 28 and Shan Yu is mid forties. Obviously, still a questionable age gap but hey it’s fiction.
If you see me shipping them just know it’s solely in this context.
Literally made this blog just to say I need more content for tagah x aang. It’s so peak they’re actually so cute
