Abaddon only had two solutions for humans: worship or die. It was easy, simple, and yet many of them still had a hard time grasping such a basic concept. The human before her, however, was different. Her blood had released Lucifer and to Abaddon that was good enough to avoid going automatically into her “torture later” list. The blood of the human before her was astounding, priceless to the Knight of Hell.
Still, that didn’t mean she wasn’t going to have a little fun.
“I’d buy you a whole bottle after what you have done.” The girl’s next words were not surprising; Lucifer’s liberator would, of course, think even less of the preacher, the spreader of lies and stupidity. “Hopefully they’ll stop believing in such a deadbeat God.” And start worshipping those that should be worshipped, Lucifer at the top of all of them. He was the one and only deserving of such love and devotion, even if most of the humans and other creatures didn’t understand how. He had created her, he had picked her and Abaddon’s life is dedicated to her King and only her King.
“Smart deduction, Verity.” Abaddon let the girl’s name roll off of her tongue like it was made of syrup and the demon was enjoying the taste of it. “I know who you are. I would be stupid not to. After all, you freed Lucifer.”
After years of relying on herself and the occasional demon possessing her, Verity liked to believe she had honed her instincts in. This woman did appear to be different. A lesser person would probably be unnerved by her presence, and the intensity of it. Verity found herself further enticed because of it.
But even she had to raise her brows at the remark about all she’s done. Yes, she gave her blood away to free Lucifer from his cage and shed light upon this world, but it wasn’t exactly a well known fact. Various groups would fight for a chance to take her life for the sacrifice she made. This woman couldn’t be one of those. Apostoles, especially, couldn’t speak against their precious scripture with such conviction.
Still. It didn’t hurt to be catious. She would not walk into a trap. “What do you mean? All I’ve done?” she questioned coyly.
“Children grow into adults who don’t let go of that idiotic hopefulness that their father will return and love them one day. If their bubble is burst after all this time, they’ll have to realize how much time they wasted.” And there was no more time to waste on looking into the sky and waiting to be saved.
All Agnes did was say her name. It shouldn’t elicit a thrill down her spine from the way her voice pronounces it. When she revealed that she knew, the surprise was evident on Verity’s face. Her head cocked and she took a step forward. “Who are you really? And don’t say we’ve met before and I’ve forgotten. I wouldn’t forget your face.” Her eyes ran down and up her body. “If you’re here to kill me, I won’t make it easy on you.”
