Hey Hey!

Greetings! My name is Professor Oleander. I’m from Johto and I did my secondary studies in being a ranger in Alma! My specialties are Ghost, Poison, Dark, Grass, Water, and Bug types! Feel free to talk to me about your Pokemon or talk to me about your research and adventures through the pokemon universe. I’m working on pokemon biology and variants!

I think about pokemon in non-battle situations a lot. Like pokemon who have been trained/raised to be helpers and assistants than to be battle partners.

Pokemon visiting hospitals to cheer patients up like dogs and cats do. Or ones that help kids learn to read, speak, swim, go through therapy?! Even pokemon who’s abilities help owners with specific disabilities?!

I love thinking of pokemon outside of battle situations.

why did you decide to become a pokemon professor?

Good question! Sadly I don't remember a lot of my childhood, besides one thing. Hoarding Pokemon books like a little demon child and reading and rereading them over and over- I do also vaguely remember getting in trouble for making notes that were copies of information I found in the books. Likely there! However, my first job I loved was as a ranger. I remember going to academy but it was a massive blur.

I do remember my ranger days. I spent most of the time helping and working with other professors. I suppose I just, naturally transferred into that role. I'm still a ranger at heart. I aim to protect before anything. Any information or secrets the pokemon want to share with me is just a bonus. But I want answers to the questions I gathered as a ranger. Questions mostly relating to people and pokemon.

You could say I am a professor out of my own curiosity and nothing else! Haha.

Sorry for the long delay friends! I’ve recently constructed a recovery garden for some local pokes who seem to have been put through a bad shape. However one of the cacnea just bloomed! So I have high hopes

Good news for our friends. Several of the cacnea came in with injuries to their body. The injuries have begun to heal and have solidified off so no exposed flesh is showing. A few are blooming so I am giving them a bit extra water for their used up energy. A few hoppip have also come over from the high winds, (possibly from Sinnoh?) and decided to keep the cacnea company. I think their enjoying each other.  Several Sunflora come in occasionally as well? I know they live on the other side of the island so im not sure what their doing near our base all of a sudden? More to report later!

Now that I’m confident in the group’s co-survival. Let’s revisit this group.

Our largest cacnea evolved into Cacturne. His/her wounds have closed up with mild scarring. I see a bright future for this group who have integrated with some of the Hoppip and Sunflora. 

The group so far is Guardthorn- Cacturne. Unsexed. Mild scarring around the hip area, back, and down the chest. Largest of the group. Flighty and defensive. Guards the others. Hopebloom- the first the bloom. Cacnea. Male. Very round and squat even for a cacnea. arms are thinner than average. Currently has a bloom on top of his head, a small pale white flower. Calm but shy, easily makes friends with other pokemon.

Deepgreen- Female. Cacnea. A darker green than the others and has a broken ‘crown’. About two year old. Enjoys music and is relatively calm, but refuses to be touched by humans or pokemon. A loner within the group. 

Poptab- Female. Cacnea. Irregular stripes and missing the left eye. Shorter left arm with old scaring across the ‘hand’ part. Newest healed scars are at her belly. Thorns on her right arm are larger than on the left and the largest thorns of the whole cacnea group. Enjoys pulling and breaking things. Especially soda cans, thus earning her name. Excitable and a bit erratic, but not actively aggressive. High energy sometimes offputs other pokemon. 

Casanova- unsexed. Cacnea. A small, cacnea with a large crown and currently blooming two reddish blossoms on top of their head. Scarring across the back in three deep slashes. Weep occasionally and ointment must be provided. somewhere between 10-11 years old. Affectionate to all grass pokemon, wary to everything else. Currently courting Light and Ambitious. appears to originally be from a different pod, due to flower coloration and patterns.

Ambitious- Leader of the Hoppip. Female. Cautious, bold, and friendly. Likely the oldest. The front leaf on her head is larger than the rest. Being courted by Casanova. Appears alright with it? To be decided.

Mosely- Male. A young Hoppip with very dark colored eyes, almost brown. Skittish, but friendly. Usually around more than one pokemon and is uncomfortable alone. Has bonded well with Deepgreen and Hopebloom. 

24-11- Female. Only Hoppip with a number tag, confirming she’s from a recovery breeding center in Shinnoh. Awaiting email to confirm colony belonging. Somewhat aloof and will class with Ambitious from time to time, but does not appear to want a leaderly position. Paired with Sleepy.

Sleepy- Female. Hoppip. A dark colored Hoppip who appears to be vision impaired. Lax and playful. Enjoys to nap and is not wary of any humans. Usually plays with Hopebloom or is resting around Guardthorn. Paired to 24-11. Falls asleep around 24-11. 

Sweet William- Male. Hoppip. darker leaves than the rest. Gentle and observant. Will watch me work and attempt to help. Friendly to all. Is well liked by all. Sings when the sun goes down, only a few join in however. Is potentially close to evolution due to size and strength.

Goldlove- Leader of the Sunflora. Female. A more orange colored Sunflora with a dark body. Large, with a tall neck stalk. Protective and parental, will gently correct Poptab and will protect smaller pokemon. Somewhat judgmental of me. Children are Light, Vibes, and Sugarsap.  

Light- Sunflora. Female. A tall Sunflora with a dotted pattern going down her face. Low energy and startled by loud noise. Being courted by Casanova. Is shy about this. Not as skittish as Mosely or Guardthorn. 

Vibes- Male. Sunflora. Welcoming and well meaning. Will sit on my porch. The dotted pattern on his face is irregular and looks more like a sideways crestant than a circle. Is well liked and stays with Sweet William a lot. More active and can keep up with Poptab. Potentially good for Poptab’s recovery.

Sugarsap- Male. Sunkern. Very pale and small. Was the runt of the group. Is naturally a bit wary due to this and stays near Goldlove. Unevolved for unknown reasons. Somewhat of a loner as well, but is very curious and will follow me if I’m doing something he find novel.  So. Those are the pokemon making up my living garden right now haha. I’m not sure if the Hoppip group will leave, but so far they seem to be ignoring the winds. I’m very pleased with the cooperation between these three Pokemon species!

*opening on the Museum in Nacarene City* A new exhibit has opened following the return of a local beloved train conductor who brought with him a mysterious wheel dated back to the industrial revolution. Approaching the wheel is a young trainer sporting a new Rotophone.

Suddenly, the trainer receives a message from an anonymous caller. It features a very old looking train with wheels similar to the one standing before them. Both begin to shine and in the blink of an eye, the trainer is gone. The scene fills up with steam and becomes pure white until a train is heard in the background and a whistle blows away the clouds.

hi all! my name is taeda, and i’m here to discuss pokemon biology and post drawings of pokemon observed in the wild. my phone camera’s fried at the moment thanks to my eelektrik getting a bit overexcited, so i hope my own impressions of myself & my team will do!

i’m originally from johto, did my gym challenge and everything there. right now, though, i’m here in unova studying pokemon ecology with my partners.

my current team! the feraligatr is william, my starter and a big old floppy guy. the flygon’s hermes, the archen is named gui, and the eelektrik is gummy worm. i do have more pokemon then this, and maybe i’ll end up posting others, but these ones are my core team.

Does anybody have any weird headcannons? Mine is that there is exactly 1 Celebi per timeline, but the lot of them like to go to other timelines because there is no difference to them walking into another room vs walking into another reality.

Pokemon are more intelligent and intuitive than dogs but aren’t human level of intelligence. Not even the best psychic type.

Humans in the pokemon world possess mild ‘magic’.

Last I wrote to you, I told you I was heading to Sinnoh. I’ve had some trouble on the way. Sadly, I found myself back at that Island. I’ve been wondering if it was even worth the effort. As your former student, perhaps a more skilled trainer should replace me. Maybe I should head to Alma and clear my head. Apologies, for the trouble I caused you when I left. I don’t quite feel like me any longer. I will write you when I take off. Tell everyone I said hello and keep this absence of me between us two.

Friendly reminder that before you evolve your pokemon, make sure you have the space. Some of the pokemon I’ve rescued are pokemon that evolved and their owner was too intimated or their wasn’t enough space. On a similar note, don’t abandon your pokemon because you end up having kids. Life with kids and pokemon can happen. Be responsible. The pokes in my care that have been abandoned need extra care and therapy treatment for their issues. Issues that were usually avoidable.

Skeeter has a few scars, which makes sense seeing as how danger prone they are (and the fact that the pokemon world is kind of a nightmare for normal people). They get away with minor injuries due to cartoon logic, but here are a few notable injuries. (because I can’t draw for sh-)

Large chemical burn on the lower back, obtained after helping a small pokemon flee from an angry Garbodor. It healed nicely, but it’s still very obvious.

Small cut on upper left arm, accidentally obtained from a young Scyther. Not how you’d think though! They were trying to play with electrical wires and while Skeeter managed to shut off the electricity in time they got sliced by the exposed wiring.

Puncture wound on lower left thigh… School archery club incident. More embarrassing than painful, please don’t ask /// ///

Stretch marks on both sides of torso, obtained after falling off a cliff. They went through a growth spurt while in the hospital.

New scar! Small burn on back of neck, obtained after chance encounter with “The Monster”.

We’re quick, when discussing the relative apparent anger and aggression of gyrados compared to its previous magikarp stage, to ascribe the differences to some intrinsic effect of evolution. In the meantime, however, we continue to dismiss, mock, and verbally abuse the magikarp, often within its hearing. 

Is it not likely, therefore, that the rage of a gyrados is not only rational and deserved, but in fact a direct 1:1 representation of the same level of emotion that the magikarp has always possessed but lacked the ability to express? A magikarp has no recourse to defend itself; it has little in the way of hidden power or tricks to regain its dignity after being dismissed; as a water pokemon it often lacks so much as the ability to leave a situation that makes it uncomfortable. 

Even the most positive and loving of trainers frequently fall into the trap of expressing support for their magikarp by pointing out that with patience and attention it will evolve into one of the most powerful known pokemon–and while certainly this is preferable to cruelty, what must it do to a pokemon’s psyche to know that this rare and precious level of kindness is still rooted in a desire to see it change in a deep, fundamental manner to increase its perceived usefulness? Would this knowledge not lend itself to frustration and anger, to lashing out, once the evolved gyrados has the ability to finally express its opinions and enforce its boundaries?
