We're now in 2026 and people are still using the sexual abuse angle as a case for Will not bottoming. I can understand if people are uneducated/ignorant in the discussion and viewing it very surface level, but I personally think the insistence on Will avoiding his trauma isn't healthy. He could need time, sure, there's a version of canon in my head where I like that too! but the concept of the only reason that he pins Mike down and uses Mike being to get away from feeling sick about bottoming/submissiveness doesn't sit right with me and never has.

I REALLY need people to learn that bottoming is not a lack of control, in fact it is and should be the opposite! Lack of control implies bottoming is degrading, a punishment, and feminine - all of which are misogynistic and untrue. If those are kinks of yours, and what you want for Mike, that is a thing in itself, that's a preference - just try and understand that viewing bottoming as inherently all those things is a problem and something you should unpack. Will would have a wonderful amount of control while bottoming especially with a caring, patient partner like Mike. I'm sorry I just don't understand how people don't see how awesome that is 😭 ?!

I'm always going to find it so much more interesting and rich to think of byler being the team that they are, working through any potential trauma Will may have. It's nice to believe in Will reclaiming his agency with the man he loves and trusts wholeheartedly, who always has and always will make him feel safe. I don't see Mike "are we just not gonna talk about it" "tell me things" Wheeler letting Will use his body to escape a deeper issue that'll just fester. Is it that deep since this is all fictional? Probably not, but I'm discussing this in reference to people using his trauma as the reason he doesn't receive. Sex and being a top/bottom also isn't solely about penetration either (Neither are dom/sub dynamics necessary to relationships). it's important to me people know that too??? People view Mike as a top for other sexual act reasons etc etc.

I have an ask I haven't finished typing up an answer for but there's a new point I came up with after season 5 that I'll say here too which is: if you like to believe that Will's experience with the UD leaves him unable to bottom, then could Will's experience in season 5 where he had no control over being physically aggressive towards his loved ones and innocent people, looming over them domineeringly, and being extremely, visibly distraught by it every time it happened, not also be a case for him not wanting to top/be dominant? realistically, you can say no to both of these because it's not real, but I just find it worth bringing up considering the logic applied to the former 😅

again, everyone can do what they like, I don't mind vers byler myself despite having a preference at the moment, but I DO think people should take care in how they discuss their interpretations cos they're often presented as spiteful and revolutionary when it's not and they don't need to be 🙏
