I just wanted to make a quick goodbye post. This RP has been one of the greatest ones I’ve joined, and I really loved writing with you all. You were so welcoming with my OC and it was just such a good experience all around. Unfortunately, because of school starting up again, I won’t have time to continue writing. I’m crossing my fingers that I can come back in the future though. Good luck with the rp!

“Well, Marissa wouldn’t be happy to be called not literate but I understand the sentiment.” He chuckled, running a hand through his hair. “You have any recommendations?”

“oh i think i get it.” morena said, nodding slowly. she was quiet for a moment, thinking very seriously about it. “well a pygmy puff isn’t half as irritating as an owl is, in fact she probably won’t even notice it unless it’s directly in front of her so… yep. you should definitely get it.” she finished decisively.

He waited for her verdict, a half-smile on his lips. “Not as irritating as an owl, that’s true, I suppose. She never warmed up to mine.” It might be true as well that unless she were actually looking at the pygmy puff, she might not even remember it was there. “What color would you recommend?”

“That’s exactly it! It’s the aesthetic!” She laughed, though her eyes quickly widened at his reaction. “Oli Tonks, I said no such thing. All I’m asking is that I can buy you one new outfit to add to your repertoire. Maybe a jacket you can pair with existing shirts or something of the sort?”

He threw his hands up, shaking his head. “I’m pretty sure you did say it. Maybe not directly, but still. Nice save though, I suppose.” He took another look at his clothes then eyed her for a moment. “I suppose a jacket or something might not be too bad.”

“Oli, you’re speaking straight to my heart.” Roxanne placed a hand on her chest and laughed. “I may not have been raised with muggle culture, but you have to admit they have great clothes. You know, if I can convince you, I’d love to take you shopping. Update your wardrobe a bit?”

“I’ve always thought muggle fashion was better than wizard fashion, to be fair. I get the whole aesthetic thing, of course, with the cloaks and quills but it’s a bit much sometimes.” He looked down at his clothes in mock outrage. “Roxanne Weasley, are you telling me there’s something wrong with my outfit? I am the epitome of fashion!” If by fashion, one meant old, comfortable clothes. He’d never been into shopping.

“Well, perhaps you ought to ask her before investing in something big, like a pet,” Arabella suggested, “If she’d be able to hide it from your parents, then I’d say go for it. If not, then maybe look into other gift options.”

“You’re probably right. It would make a better birthday or Christmas gift anyway. And maybe I can talk my mum into it by then. I’ll have to stop by Flourish & Blotts or something and get her a book. She always likes that pretty well too.”

morena frowned at him, her plans of living vicariously through him going out the window at the mention of being afraid of his mother. it seemed the pair of them shared the same problem. “well then i don’t know.” morena replied with a huff. “why doesn’t your mum be angry? it’s not like a pygmy puff is frightening or messy or anything. maybe she just, won’t be angry?” 

Well that took a sudden turn. Oli shook his head and bit back a sigh. “No it’s more that she’s tired of magical things. Pygmy puffs are great, yeah, but she’s sort of had it with owls and spells and things. I dunno, she might not care though, since a pygmy puff wouldn’t do anything.”

Fergus has stopped in front of Magical Merengie’s eyeing the different pets wondering if he should bring one of them home to keep his hedgehog company when he overheard the boy. “Hmm, they pretty much look like a ball of fluff. You could just tell your mother it’s a very vibrant dust bunny?” he chuckled.

He glanced over when the other boy spoke, laughing at the suggestion. “She might believe that one. And I don’t think she gets into Marissa’s room for dusting much anyway so it could be safe, I guess.”

“i think you should go for it!” morena said encouragingly, she had been begging her parents for a pygmy puff of her own for months now but they would not give in. perhaps she could live vicariously through oliver. “i would be thrilled if my big brother bought me one.”

“Yeah, you think?” He chuckled as he turned to look at Morena for a moment. “Marissa would too. She’s always fascinated by anything magical. It’s just Mum. I don’t know if I want to risk her wrath.”

“Well think about it this way,” Arabella began, eyeing the pygmy puffs, “They’re pretty easy to hide. Is your sister good at keeping secrets?”

“That’s true,” Oli said, tipping his head to the side. “I’m not really sure about her keeping secrets though. Not sure she’s ever tried to but if any of us could do it easily, it would probably be her. Marissa’s really determined when she wants to be.”

“Marissa would love a pygmy puff,” Oli muttered as he eyed the creatures in the shop window in front of him. “But Mum would kill me for bringing another magical pet into the house so it might not be worth it.”

“Family is a complicated thing,” she noted wondering how to sort out her own family issues. “Do you at least have some sort of charm on your pack? Otherwise, it would get quite heavy if you are the packrat you say you are,” she pointed out with a laugh. Hauling around a bunch of DVD’s would also be quite bulky if you had more than a couple. “Don’t they pay you? I suppose if you could find a part time one that would work around those hours, don’t want to run yourself ragged. What don’t they like about it?” Iliana wished she had a clear path as he did, something she wanted, a passion to follow but she just wasn’t sure. A few fields seemed interesting but she’d thought she still had another year to choose so it had left her scrambling. “You do sound quite a bit like a mum right now,” she teased. “If I visit Chryson again I might get it checked out, but my limited skills should suffice.” Her eyes scanned the titles he held up weighing the options. “Well if you’ve got the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings we could make quite a marathon out of it, see how long we can last.”

“You can say that again,” he muttered. It had been complicated enough when he was younger, but navigating everything was even worse now that he was trying to be a little more independent. “What sort of wizard do you think I am? Of course I’ve got a charm on it. Started that in Hogwarts - it got really heavy there, you know. So many books.” He grinned and shook his head, although he missed those days. Life had been so much simpler when they were in Hogwarts and only worried about classes. “They do, but it’s not much yet. And it’s not really about the money so much, just that I want to be here. They’re worried - Mum is sure it’s not safe for me here and I know she’s right but that doesn’t mean I ought to spend my whole life cooped up, right?” The magical world was too interesting to ignore it now. “I’m just imitating what I hear at home. Mum is always after us for something.” Tossing the two Hobbit movies down, he nodded and started searching again. “Let me see what else is in here. I’ve probably got all of them. How long do you reckon we can make it? That’s a lot of movie time.”

There was a lull in the time between his words and her response as she stepped up to the counter. She ordered her usual, paying quickly before turning back to Oliver. “Most of my sides are good, so I don’t think that’ll be difficult for you. Are you a cappuccino man? I feel like you are.” 

Oli rocked back on his feet as he waited for her to order, eyeing the menu curiously. “I’ve been told that I’m pretty good at staying on good sides, for the most part. So that shouldn’t be a problem. And yeah, I like a good cappuccino. I’m pretty easy to please when it comes to food. Or coffee.”

“I always thought that seemed interesting, at least for the creatures that play nice, not so much for the ones that want to eat you,” he chuckled. “Do you get to work with them much. I’m a musician much to my parent’s horror.”

“Well, I think they’re going to teach us how to work with the ones that don’t play nice. I could be wrong - maybe they’ll just toss us in with them and see who makes it. We’re doing a lot of orientation stuff, it seems to me now. But we get to do field work too. And more eventually.” He laughed as well, taking another bite of his sandwich. “Oh, really? Muggle or wizard music? I can imagine how my parents would take that news and it’s not really pretty.”

She wrinkled her nose slightly. Roxanne wasn’t a big Care of Magical Creatures fan, but she knew it made him happy, so she smiled anyways. “Well, I hope you’re enjoying it, at least?” She gestured vaguely in the direction of the entrance to muggle London. “A little vintage boutique just outside Diagon Alley. “I get paid with muggle money, but I like buying muggle clothes and that’s all I’d really spend my money on anyways.”

“I am!” He grinned at the nose-wrinkling; maybe not everyone was a fan, and maybe it was more that he had spent the first eleven years of his life as a Muggle, but he thought magical creatures were fascinating. “It’s been good, when Mum’s not too worried. That gets a little . . .” His voice trailed off as he shrugged. “Oh that sounds like it would be really interesting. My little sister likes vintage stuff. And Muggle clothes are pretty good.” Better than wearing robes all the time. There were some aspects of wizard culture that just didn’t make sense.

The shop was quiet as Briony sorted through the bundles of plants on the counter in front of her. It was rare that she was alone during her shifts at Noltie’s, but she didn’t mind the solitude. It gave her a chance to think through things and process all that had transpired in the past weeks. Her life had just begun to settle back down after the recent attack and her release from the hospital. Far slower than she had hoped for, but she supposed she should have anticipated that. Returning to work had been a blessing, a way to escape the worried looks her family and friends gave her. 

A small chime alerted her to the opening of the shop door and she stepped out quickly from the back room into the main of the shop. “Hello. How may I help you?”

Oli grinned a bit sheepishly as the girl entered the front room. “I’m just looking, mostly. Also looking for a job? I dunno.” He hadn’t really thought about it when he ducked through this door; it was more for the interest of checking out another wizarding store than anything else, really.

“It’s amazing the way a nickname can become your identity,” she mused with a relaxed laugh. The stress was over and she’d gotten away with it, which was all she really cared about. She raised her shoulder at his question. “Depends on what kind of mood I’m in that day.” It was mostly a joke and she shot him a wink to keep things light.

“At least it’s a nice nickname, right? It could be a lot worse.” He said with a chuckle as well. Some of his Muggle friends had pretty atrocious nicknames they had never lived down. He grinned at her, nodding thoughtfully. “Right so I’ll remember to keep on your good side then.”
