I think that so many people, especially people who insist that music subcultures (particularly goth and emo) are not intrinsically connected to politics, forget that its not media that informs the culture, but instead culture that informs the media

or in other words, culture informs the counter-culture. people often think that its bands independent politics that inform how the subculture should react and in turn say that independent politics are not necessary for someone in the culture to possess them when really its the other way around.

counter-culture musical scenes are formed because of their collective response to the mainstream and the rejection of the conservative and right wing politics, meaning that the politics is what informs both the sound and subculture as a whole and that not possessing the values that the bands preach means that you do not get it, and are effectively missing the point.

I think that a lot of people who engage in these subcultures in the modern day and online MISS THE POINT to such a degree that we have right wing emos and conservative punks, this is also a case of co-opting where people of different views from ones closely linked to a culture come in, take their sound their style and use it to push a message that deviated from the original one, often aligning more to the right

this co-opting ive seen best in the commercialization and general center-shifting politics of the emo scene where people think that having the hair, dressing the part and having vaguely left leaning but often centrist ideals means you get it. you dont.

I think this type of thinking and missing the point-ism is best talked about in this video, i highly encourage you to watch it.

two days ago, on saturday, I finished a program at western university for high school students in honour wind ensemble programs,

the pieces were… a range of extremely difficult to a cakewalk but even through my dread of getting up on saturdays I had a good time at the final concert

four months of practice has come to an end in a single half hour.

This outfit has been wandering my mind for months, and as the temperatures rise i thought a test-run would be fit. This entire look was inspired once i laid my eyes upon the flower lace scarf at a thrift store, and was furthermore inspired by high class queer and cocky fashion designers.

For as much as I love fashion, I never truly engage with it within my own closet, partly because of the same-style clothes I have, and also because I thought of myself to be a subpar model.

The Angel in Silver I particularly like. I dont care much for accessories in my regular clothes, but the sheer amount of chain I apparently owned gave me an idea for an unorthodox arrangement.

This, for now, is my contribution to larger fashion.

I did two of my four exams today, both way easier than I assumed. especially my chem exam.

I cant wait for my next semester, i predicted it will be much better than my first.

Ive also been doing an ensemble at a nearby university, which is taking up a lot of my time.

yet even through my taken schedule i am not lack of time to embrace my vampiric instincts and sleep the days until they turn over to nights. the -25 degree weather dosent help much either, however.

Ive been getting into watching couture runway shows as of recent, all of which have simply encapsulated me.

my love for fashion is an open secret, and as i research fashion week de paris for a french assignment i realize just how much i like more striking, avant-garde pieces.

i especially liked Robert Wuns collection for the haute couture fall-winter series of 2025.

I do recommend putting on a video of the show and throwing on your favourite piece of classical music (mines la danse macabre by camille saint-saëns)

Its a fun time truly, brings me back to when i wanted to be a fashion designer as a kid and would create a makeshift runway with all my stuffed animals as the audience at the side.

today i realized how little people know about possible options for nonbinary people transitioning.

i was playing a game similar to cards against humanities but “queer” with about 6 other people, all queer in some way, a few, including me, were trans in some way.

someone pulled two cards, one saying “taking estrogen” and the other “taking testosterone”

the person thought it was a funny coincidence and showed everyone else, of which then the joke of “hey, thats what nonbinary people do! take both and it cancels it out!” sprung up

and then howling laughter.

obviously it was a joke, but it made me feel weird as the only person there who was nonbinary and looking to pursue a transition that deviated from the usual. it got me thinking, do these people ACTUALLY know anything about nonbinary transition options? or do they legitimately think nonbinary people take estrogen and testosterone at the same time to become some monolithic androgynous perfectly masc and fem person?

in the scope of transitioning, i feel like nonbinary options, such as nullification surgery, are hardly talked about, and if they are then they’re seen as “gross” and “weird” in comparison to phallo or vagino, a case can also be made here about how its accepted intersexism and exorsexism to see anything but the typical/popular bottom surgeries/genitals as “gross.”

i just find it so odd how people are so well-versed in typical trans women and trans mens transitions, but will have never even heard of nullification.
