i've just gotten back so i might not be as good at tips as i was earlier, but here's stuff from my personal experience! everyone experiences bpd differently, so you dont have to follow this verbatim :3
tl;dr, everyone who gets a little too fond, a little too comfortable, a little too kind, is a threat. online, in person, everyone who tries to maintain contact with me is trying to hurt me. i am either too smart to allow myself to get hurt by them or too broken of a person for them to deal with. i have systems in place for folks who try to get too close, because if i dont then they'll get even closer before i can get them away
im sure you can find info about mood swings and stuff elsewhere, but something that i dont see mentioned often is that i have been completely incapable of making or maintaining any friendships since i became symptomatic, the concept is genuinely terrifying to me. i push EVERYONE away. i leave folks before they can possibly leave me, i ghost folks constantly, i feel bad but i need to protect myself from folks. i have no trust in anyone. having too personal of a conversation with someone who isnt my friend nauseates me because i need to leave them IMMEDIATELY, they can't get this close to me, theyll certainly hurt me. even on games i get terrified while having normal chats with folks, ill leave the game if they get too fond of me. getting sent a friend request is scary, i usually just dont respond to the friend request until ive left the game. i am a far too unstable person for anyone new to handle, only the very few folks who grew up with me and watched me become symptomatic and stayed can handle me. if im feeling happy instead of paranoid at that time, my justification is that im smart enough to know that they arent worth the risk. im smart enough to know what they intend and that they intend to harm me. sometimes ill be desperate and make some friends, but if that occurs then i usually block them pretty quickly. the smallest things will change my mood completely, so sometimes my general behavior will push them away before i need to block them. if you decide to use this info, i hope it helps! you definitely don't need to since this certainly isnt the case for all folks with bpd, but its just a big thing in my case :3
