Bread. A simple food and a symbol for basic sustenance. Warm from the oven, with the smell of yeast and flour still strong in its aura. Crunchy on the outer, soft on the inner. Fragile yet tough to rip.

Continuing the architectural run, a doorway that at night provides meagre shelter for a person. The flattened box tat once held the latest in TV technology now a shield against the rain and wind. It does little for the draughts and creeping cold, but the homeless are made of strong stuff⊠arenât they?

High contrast shadows on a sunny day in Brompton Cemetery. Just loved these two, almost matching, grave markers; one in shadow against a sunlit backdrop, and the reversal in front. Magic. Just got lucky with the timing.

Here is 2 of 3. Love this pose. It is full of tension. The model looks far from relaxed. Thereâs a dynamic feel to the angular shapes, and the shot wouldnât work quite so well if the arm/hand was not there to add that unexpected drama.

Figurativeness by Zdravka Kokalova
This set was part of EyesOn Vienna in House of Wittgenstein.
âContrast and harmony. The environment constructs and disintegrates the image. We disappear into the space. Individual inner side and common figurativeness. Our world has never existed in the matter. In the darkness we can hide the unneeded. The whiteness is not always purity. We donât see the object, but we see his boarders. Nothing ends wherever we think it would. The environment builds us.It takes and gives. Contrast or harmony, we disappear into spaceâ.

The âSurfacedâ series acknowledges the relationship between photography, painting and drawing in portraiture. I take photographs as I paint and pour liquids onto myself, using my face as a canvas. The photo shoot references the practice of drawing and painting; then the final graphite drawing references photography. The boundaries between the mediums are broken down and the processes are interwoven.
