he opened his door further, allowing her ample space to walk in. he took the plate from her, so she wouldn’t have to hold them anymore, and looked at her very carefully, with a trained eye. she seemed…alright. which was more than he could say for most people on base. he’d thought the worst about her for some time- he’d thought, for quite some time, that she was dead, and that he’d failed at his one job he had to do. convincing her to leave was hard enough in the first place, but he wouldn’t have been able to leave here there alone. and there was a sense of relief now that he knew she’d found her own way. he always knew she was smarter than she let on. 

“you’re sure you’re alright?” he asked, setting the tray down on his counter and nodding to the small couch he had in the living room. “because you don’t sound so fine. if you’re going to cry, give me a heads up, because i’m going to have to prepare myself.” he was joking, and allowed himself a small smile, if anything, to put persephone more at ease. he tilted his head slightly, nodding towards the salmon that he’d been preparing on the counter. “not busy, just cooking. if you like fish, you’re welcome to have some when it’s done. just don’t tell sushi,” he said, only half-kidding, as he motioned to his gold fish that was swimming around the small bowl on the table. he wasn’t asking questions. not yet, at least. because if she had been through something traumatic, the last thing he wanted to do was abruptly bring it up. no, if she wanted to tell him something, then she would, and he could wait until she was ready for that conversation. “did you make these cookies? should i be worried?” he teased.

SHE WALKED across the whole room cautiously looking at every detail of his new room. she had the exact same one but somehow it didn’t feel right. he had earned the place, kept loyal to olympus and deserved to be here. everyone who had betrayed the agency was scattered around london, banned from the headquarters and hated by everyone while she was still there as if nothing had happened. his rambling voice could be heard from across the room and reagan lightly chuckled at his obvious attempts to ease her down. “yikes, i was really looking forward to eating this little buddy here,” her voice was lacking the chirpiness and enthusiasm it was usually filled with as she tapped the glass to bother the animal while she waited for him to stop talking .

he was taking too long, being too careful, she wished he would just start interrogating her so she could burst and tell him the whole truth. but no, this was not a routine agency interrogation she had come to attend, this was just a sincere apology between the two of them. “sot— you know the helicopters that flew away from the base the day of the explosion? shit— nevermind you where in buried in the woods god knows where. fuck- sot, do you promise to not say anything i’m about to tell you?”
