I can't stop thinking of Morty forever being doomed by the narrative. he's never gonna get to grow up and thrive without Rick by his side. He's never gonna get to tell his parents off about how terrible they are. he's never gonna get to hang out with Summer in a setting where they aren't in serious danger. he's never gonna get to be his own person. because his writers want to keep this torment going on for eternity. I'm so fucking sick
idk trash i made
im not your mom, but i couldn't be your big sister
I noticed so many people hold Summer to way higher standart than they should, they treat her like she contribute to Morty abuse when in reality she is just as much victim of her parents neglect as Morty.
Yes she is golden child of family and is favored by her parents, yes she she can be mean sometimes and yes she absolutely act selfish from time to time but god dams she is 17 year old jelous about her brother getting extra attention and is victim of Jerry and Beth being neglect she may not show it as much but she suffer in this family too.
Beth gave her black eye while drunk, she is mocked by others for her look which made her incredybly insecure and and she is blaming herself for her family misery for just being born. Teenage girls are bitter sometimes, let her be inperfect victim like everybody else in this show.
man pre episode 9 coming out and when everyone was in the euphoria of "morty running away is coming trust" i was cooking this theory that without empathy morty if he was in like mortal peril idk would just let himself die because the reason he wants to live is bc he was worried about what his death would do to his family. and without empathy why would he care if his death affected anyone
now i know im super wrong lmao. morty wants to live no matter what, and his family wouldnt notice anything until it was too late
who's good, who's right, who's just... i dunno

CW: grooming, abuse
I saw some other posts related to this on Twitter, but my account on there is private and not really meant for fandom interaction, so I'm just gonna say my piece here. Rick literally groomed Morty and the entire Smith family into accepting and overlooking his abuse. I don't know if this is a controversial take on Tumblr or not. It's what I see on the screen and this is coming from someone who hates Rickorty as a ship.
I had a hard time figuring out how to word this thought previously, because it seems if you use the word "grooming" instead of "manipulation", people will accuse you of making things up, or any use some other excuse to minimize Rick's wrongdoing. Because anyone who hears the word "grooming" assumes that it MUST mean that someone in the equation is being accused of sexual abuse and therefore pedophilia (nevermind the fact that sexual attraction does not need to be present in order for sexual abuse to take place), when in reality it just describes using a power imbalance to one's advantage in order to ease a more vulnerable person into allowing the exploitation of themselves and others, whether it be financial, emotional, or sexual. A definition that can help victims of all kinds of abuse more accurately identify what happened to them, and understand why their family/social circles failed to prevent it.
The best example I can think of for nonsexual grooming is the relationship between Azula and her father in Avatar: The Last Airbender. The fact that Azula was groomed by Ozai into acting the way she did is common knowledge in that fandom, and often referenced when breaking down Azula's motivations and insecurities. It's unfortunate that regular fans of Rick and Morty have gotten so afraid of being mistaken for Rickorty shippers that they can't have frank discussions about these things without that worry looming over them.
Also, this isn't me policing Rick fans in any way! He's an interesting character and I like him for it too. I'm only pointing out that a lot of his manipulative actions towards Morty and the family would probably be considered some form of grooming in real life because I feel like ignoring it means missing out on good character analysis. Morty is a relatable character in many ways but this is the main reason I latched onto him so hard as another victim of grooming when I was in my early teens. I can't help but wonder how many other non-Rickortys feel the same and are just afraid to say it.
“Why would you not revisit this? “
“Oh, I don't know, maybe, uh, the ending?”
