Hmmmm. Bad End Merwaine AU where, in order to save Gwaine's life, Merlin ends up desperately pouring all of his magic and power into Gwaine. And, while Gwaine does survive...this procedure also passes on Merlins immortality to Gwaine. Gwaine is immortal, and maybe a bit magical, and has inherited this destiny he didnt want, attached to a guy he doesnt like, forced to watch Merlin and all his friends die. And his only hope for reprieve from centuries of immortal isolation is the idea that one day Arthur - a guy he likes less and less with every passing decade - finally returns. And the whole time Gwaine is helping Arthur fulfill his destiny, both of them are burdened with the horrible knowledge that it should be Merlin here, helping Arthur, fulfilling destiny, saving the world. But its not. Its Gwaine.

And then, one by one, all of their other friends return as well. Lancelot, Leon, Elyan, Percival, Gwen...and every day, Gwaine waits at the lake for Merlin to rise as well.

But he never does.

Merlin is supposed to be immortal. He was never destined to resurrect alongside his friends, so he didnt. Even though hes dead, it was never his destiny to be brought back to life.

But still Gwaine waits, day after day, by the lakeside. Knowing deep down that Merlin isnt coming back, believing its his own damn fault - but refusing go admit that his hundreds of years of waiting were for nothing.

Hey remember in season one when Arthur briefly learned from his misogyny, allowing the women to fight in the battle of Ealdor and even saying he would be “honoured” to fight along side them if they chose to defend their homes??

Remember how he gave a room full of untrained commoners a speech just as spirited and passionate as one he would give to his knights?? Remember how this is the first battle where he literally 100% disregards class difference to the point of doing Merlin’s armour for him?? You know, that thing that was foreshadowed as though it would be important to his character (look to a degree in canon it is- but not nearly enough) in “Lancelot”?? Remember how he’s seriously impacted by the words of a commoner that he has never met before so much so that he questions his decisions and their impact on others?? Something that only happens like one (I could be wrong) other time in the series when we’re introduced to Tristan??

Or or how bout this- how he lets both Gwen and Morgana call him out and actually takes their words into account on a large scale level by letting it impact his actions as the episode progressed??

Shame that they threw that away, isn’t it?

best scene in the entire series, no doubt about it. the way you can just tell merlin and leon have complained to each other about arthur before. the way merlin threatening arthurs life bc of exasperation is just a Thing ("you know if morgana doesn't kill you, i will") that the knights enjoy. hilarious. im aboslutely obsessed.

also just how excited and Serious leon is about the crossbow??? "a thing of beauty" bro.... would you like some time alone???? he's so eager to teach merlin about it.

Why do the writers always delete the scenes with character development and great dynamics?

Merlin and Gwaine discussing about Gaius and Gwaine’s father? Not important! Gwaine is only a comic relief now.

Merlin and Arthur discussing about Morgana? Who cares! Arthur and Morgana are not brother and sister after all. They didn’t grow up together. Arthur doesn’t care about that evil witch. He never cared.

Mordred expressing hesitation to Morgana about joining her too soon before giving Arthur a second chance? Nah. Mordred is super evil now. End of story.

Arthur gave Merlin Ygraine’s sigil AND shows how much Arthur still thinks about his mother and cares for Merlin? How Arthur accepting him in his family? Fuck this scene. Arthur is a prince and Merlin just a stupid servant! We can’t elevate this stupid servant.

Merlin doesn’t intend to join everyone seated at the round table, but Arthur calls him over to sit at his side? Delete this shit! Arthur and Merlin are not equal. They are not two sides of the same coin.

The results of the second round of the Merlin Mini Arena are in and the winner is GWEN! Morgause was a strong opponent but Gwen managed to take her down in the end. Here are some of our favorite responses we received for this matchup:

Gwen’s heart is too big… if Morgause stabbed it, another one would simply grow in its place. As much as I love gwen, morgause not only is a high priestess of the old religion, but an extremely skilled sword fighter that managed to beat arthur. But! Gwen is alive at the end of the show and morgause isn't so point for her ♡ gwen can and should crush morgause like a bug. i love her yes morgause is mOrE pOwErFuL but hear me out. gwen is too nice to kill

okay let me drop some merthur content.

i have this theory that merlin and arthur can physically feel each other’s existence, like a part of them is always aware of the other.

like, maybe when arthur was a newborn, he was like literally inconsolable and used to be a very restless & sad baby but then a year or two later, merlin was born in ealdor and baby arthur suddenly became agreeable & normal, acting like children are supposed to act.

maybe that’s why when arthur first met merlin he said, “there’s something about you, merlin”. something instinctual tugged at him and he was drawn to merlin but didn’t understand why.

and then after arthur died, merlin could still feel a thread of arthur’s life-force that was binding him to the world and that’s what gave merlin hope to go on for so long. that as long as he felt that thread, he had reason to keep going, no matter how long it was.

what if soulmate means you can literally feel each other’s souls?
