this is not a safe space for team j*remiah girlies!!!
okay. i have to rant about this because I've been seeing a lot of comments on TikTok of people saying "Why did Laurel only decide to go to the bridal shower because of Conrad? Does she not love her own daughter?" and "Conrad said the exact same thing that John said so why did she listen to Conrad instead of John? Jenny Han's just trying to make Conrad look good" to which I say NO YOU'RE MISSING THE POINT. In my opinion, while the words Conrad tells Laurel are important in her making her final decision, it's Conrad's PERSPECTIVE and the role he plays in this situation that makes her come back to Belly. John, while true in stating that Laurel will regret her decision for the rest of her life, comes from a place where he doesn't seem to mind the wedding. In the beginning, Belly claims that her dad avoids talking to her about the wedding, but when talking to Laurel says that Belly and Jeremiah are "good together" and "aren't them." It leads me to feel as though John, while reluctant about the wedding, believes in them as a couple. Which is the exact opposite of what Laurel believes, and its what puts them at odds and what makes her not listen then. Conrad, however, gives a different perspective because out of EVERY SINGLE PERSON at that dinner, Conrad should have been the angriest. Not only did his brother start dating his ex-girlfriend, but now they're getting engaged? And he's going to be the best man? Out of everyone, he should be against the wedding, and yet here he is asking her to attend the wedding. And he tells Laurel the truth, that he doesn't believe that they should be getting married. But that's not the point. Laurel still knows that Conrad loves Belly, and realizing how much Conrad is SACRIFICING is what makes her realize that she is not doing a good enough job with her own daughter. If a child--because in Laurel's eyes, having watched him grow up, what else could he be?--is willing to sacrifice his own happiness for his brother and the love of his life, then she also needs to step up and show up for her daughter because her daughter DESERVES THAT.
Not to mention the Kayleigh of it all, which unlike what Jeremiah and Belly have been trying to convince themselves this whole time, is NOT WHAT SUSANNAH WOULD HAVE WANTED. Having her husband's mistress plan her son's wedding? Laurel is coming back to call out Adam and to fuck shit up (in my humble opinion... she better be).
Overall, I think what pushes her over the edge is seeing that selfless love that Conrad has for Belly and all that he's willing to do for her despite the fact that he may never be happy again, and Laurel knows that in this moment she also needs to be selfless for Belly because her daughter needs her and will need her when this eventually all goes to hell.

Bonus: arthur took all the pillows so Merlin started hoarding the blanket
If Arthur tried to get Merlin to wear something like this again in the later series, I feel like it would turn out like this
Bonus: arthur took one look at merlin on the throne and his heart almost gave out
apparently at one point in the 1960s the editors of dc comics had to make an official editorial rule that there would be “no more than one gorilla per month” over their different titles because the writers were just creating so many stories about gorillas and they were worried it’d be too much
I’m going to be starting a new job soon and in my talk with HR she went “Computer tech? That means you’ll be with the boys.”
Turns out, I’m gonna be the only woman in that department. Not surprising on it’s own, but so far I’ve met three of “the boys”.
They’re all huge.

Dave Brandt was so much more than a meme. He partnered with universities to experiment with and expand soil conservation and cover crop techniques, worked to educate other farmers through worldwide conventions and direct mentorship, founded the Soil Health Academy, and was called the "Obi-Wan Kenobi of soil health" by the chief of the USDA's conservation department.
There is no healthy planet without healthy ag practices, and this guy was a legend.
The A-horizon on his farm was 4 feet deep
You do not understand
Most modern Ag operations don’t even have a proper A-Horizon. They’re too busy turning the earth every time they replant. The A-horizon is the Black Gold that makes Soil Soil. It’s a structurally complex soil horizon that must be built in place by the interactions of Plants and Fungi and Insects. It is The Thing that soaks up rain and holds onto it for plants. The A-Horizon is The Thing that builds up when you let a field sit fallow. The act of tilling creates fecundity by breaking up the A-horizon. On a really good Organic no-till farm you might find an A-horizon between 3-6 inches.
His A-horizon was 4 feet deep. 50 inches.
I-
I have no context. His farm was covered in a living skin thick enough for a child to stand in.
Gives me hope for what we could accomplish if we got our collective heads on straight, you know? Like. This was one guy. A brilliant man, who knew what he was up to, but. The thing about brilliant ideas is they can be shared.
50 inches. The mind reels.
