i think a lot abt the fact that ahsoka tano came to age during the clone wars, this last great struggle between what she viewed as good and evil. she looked at the whole of the republic — every planet, torn and lost — and thought, “take my hand and we’ll figure this out together. we’ll make things better together. i’ll learn from you, and you from me.” she wanted to fight, to be a defender and crusader; she thrived on the strict purpose and doing what had to be done. but the longer the war went on and the further the jedi fell into the role they had crafted for themselves, the more she realized the actual struggle between good and evil was not separatist versus republic. of course, it wasn’t ! it was what the jedi had done versus what they were still willing to do in the name of war.
she came to age under these pressures of uncertainty and this fracturing of jedi beliefs. she fell victim to it. she walked away from it. ahsoka believed so hard in this great force; she believed in it so much that she saw the jedi as the personification of it. and when that image cracked…….. it was like she could suddenly See where this path was taking them, and it was the dark side — not a love of pain and a joy of suffering, but suspicion and dehumanizing people and fear fear fear. ( this is something the jedi teaches, that this is the dark side too, but they were blind to its presence all the same. ) and for the first time, she had to say “let me figure things out for myself.” in walking away from the order, ahsoka did the most traditional jedi thing she could have!!!!!! she put aside her own feelings in the face of something greater!!!! and that in itself became a form of rebellion against them! ah i love her……. my daughter………
