I’ve decided to use this word to discuss something going through my mind ever since the sneak peek for the upcoming episode.
Remember how in the wizard of Oz everybody saw the wizard as the version more suitable for them? I thought of this concept after seeing this sneak peek. When Charming looked into the “future” he saw Emma as a baby he held in his harms. Snow saw her as the teenager version.
After seeing this scene, I came to the conclusion that this is the exact same way both of them are seeing her now. Charming looks at Emma like his little girl. He missed all these years with her, but instead of thinking about the time he lost with Emma, he is trying to make up for it now, choosing to see her as the little girl who needs him still.
Mary Margaret is looking at Emma like a teenager girl. She does feel the years that she missed and her treatment to Emma is like to a teenage girl she’s trying to bond with (sometimes awkwardly) and still trying to educate.
Both Charming and Snow, each one from his/her own prospective, have a daughter-parent relationship with Emma. They have warm moments with her, feel proud of her, but also embarrass her, and make mistakes with her.
All this situation is of course very complex because Emma is not a little child anymore and not a teenager anymore, she’s an adult. But at the same time Emma also wants to make up for this lost time, she also wants to feel what it’s like to be someone’s little girl or teenager girl.
We already know that Emma and her parents are about to face a crisis after Emma will learn the truth, but this is just the way to accept your parents through an adult prospective and realize that after all they are only human, just like you.
