Like most people know, Gina canonically has 4 brothers that taught her hockey.

Sadly, we have no further information about the 4 boys :(

So like any determined fan, I decided to take matters into my own hands...

Other headcanons for Lio:

-Elliot prefers the nickname Lio or Eli

-14 year old freshman and managed to skip a grade due to his high intelligence, yet (unlike Gina) doesn’t show it off at any given chance.

-One of the top students in his high school (All to keep the Hemphill-Toms tradition of being the best, although he hates it)

-Close friends with Ellen through Gordie

-Isn't very close with his parents (argues with them a lot)

-Teases and annoys Gina the most but VERY protective over her

-Never bothers to cut his hair because he thinks it’s "cooler that way" (and it is hehe)

-Sometimes forgets to wear his glasses outside of school

-Has a very calm personally, and a quiet kid (unless with friends, then thats a whole nother story)

the idea in nate's mind of asking out dee dee going from being a nightmare scenario to something he actively does is so funny to me

which makes sense, he's given out valentines to every non-taken girl in the 6th grade on multiple occasions. once he started to like dee dee more as a person, he was okay with dating her. and dee dee calls him out bc she's the best character

headcanon: i think dee dee and gina went to the same elementary school together.

so, i don't think they're friends (at least not in the books)

but when gina goes to ask for advice, instead of going to one of her pre-established friends, she's talking to dee dee.

outside of the more realest explanation that it would be easier to make the joke with two established characters, i think this happens because:

a. dee dee is connected enough to be on good terms with nearly everyone, including gina.

b. the two of them don't typically hang out, but know the other well enough just by being acquaintances for that long. and this usually comes with growing up together. which would explain why gina is more willing to go to her first rather than the other way around.

they're my favorite relationship in the comic, but i don't believe it was executed the best, which is why it's controversial in the fanbase (i think).

gina is one of the few characters to never have a romantic partner in the comic. feeling left behind while your friends are partnering up is like, the textbook middle school experience. so having a more grounded arc dedicated to her insecurity of this was a good idea. but her and francis have a complicated history in the comics and novels. they're the only ones who can match the other's intelligence, but this causes them to be competitive when their smarts is put into question by the other (like in the trivia slam arc and outstanding scholarship medal arc). i think the best way to describe them was frenemies, which is what makes them interesting imo. i feel like when writing them getting together, this wasn't really addressed. even in their most recent arc last september.

which is why i think the relationship is controversial - a lot of their history and character was taken out in order to make this a thing. when it didn't have to be.
