Mrs. Hill Please take a moment to apologize
Darlene Hill,
Thank you for having the quartet from Sphinx Music Organization on your show. Their mission is one of a kind and I have been a fan for 10 years. And as a fan of Sphinx, I’m only speaking for myself...
I really really hope you intend to take a moment to publicly apologize to all people of color (beyond Karlos) that have to deal with racial profiling and colorism that exist within the communities of people of color. I know some of the Sphinx musicians personally and they work too hard at their art, from Carnegie Hall to International tours to be slighted by anyone, especially a Black woman. Everyday Sphinx makes history by putting an instrument in a Black or Latino child’s hand and giving them a chance to be the best in an art that is underrepresented or ignored.
http://www.fox32chicago.com/mornings/56187139-story
For some reason you were able to take a moment to call into question the main existence of this organization’s focus on Black and Latino musicians. It’s because of Sphinx, that uninformed people can learn that Latino and Black people can have baby blue eyes and not be ‘Caucasian’ and play classical music at the highest level. In fact that’s why you had them on the show in the first place. If it wasn’t for their unquestionable talent and beautiful music, your comments would have ruined the entire segment.
As a first time entrepreneur, I’ve learned the hard way about humility over the last several years. I would like to ask that you please take a moment and just apologize on your show, for the young and the old that don’t know Sphinx exist and that being Black and Latino in classical music means a lot more than what someone looks like. I saw your mini-apology on the video and I’m sure you genuinely apologized to Karlos afterwars, but we both know it’s bigger than Karlos..and you. But you can also do your part to make sure there will be fewer assumptions on your account.
Again, most people would sweep this “blip” under the rug, and just apologize on the side. But your words have power and reach, if you understand your power of voice and news, then I hope you can find it within to take a moment to fix this.
Just a Sphinx Fan.

3 Tips to Boost Your Confidence
When faced with a big challenge where potential failure seems to lurk at every corner, you’ve probably heard the advice, “Be more confident!” But where does confidence come from, and how can you get more of it? Here are three easy tips to boost your confidence.
Tip #1: Try a quick fix. There are a few tips that can give you an immediate confidence boost in the short term. Picture your success when you’re beginning a difficult task. Something as simple as listening to music with deep bass can promote feelings of power. You can even strike a powerful pose or give yourself a pep talk.
Tip #2: Believe in your ability to improve. Do you think your abilities and talents are fixed at birth like your eye and hair color? Or that can they be developed - like a muscle? These beliefs matter because they can influence how you act when you’re faced with setbacks. With a fixed mindset, you may be more likely to give up - thinking that you’ve discovered something you’re not very good. But with a growth mindset, a challenge can be an opportunity to learn and grow. In fact, the connections in your brain get stronger and grow with study and practice.
Tip#3: Practice failure. Face it: you’re going to fail sometimes. Everyone does. Studies show that those who fail regularly and keep trying anyway are better equipped to respond to challenges and setbacks in a constructive way. They learn how to try different strategies, ask others for advice, and persevere.
So, think of a challenge you want to take on, realize it’s not going to be easy, accept that you’re going to make mistakes, and be kind to yourself when you do. Give yourself a pep talk, stand up, and go for it. The excitement you’ll feel knowing that, whatever the result, you’ll have gained better knowledge and understanding. This is confidence.
