The website Ethiopian Folktales contains almost 300 stories recorded between 1997 and 2001 in every region of Ethiopia as well as some from Somalia.
The stories were collected with funding and support from the Ethiopian Ministry of Education and British Council by Elizabeth Laird who also wrote a book about her experiences.

Toting panels on donkeys, Maasai women lead a solar revolution
Toting panels on donkeys, Maasai women lead a solar revolution. “Now as darkness falls, lights flick on across this sleepy hamlet, thanks to the efforts of more than 200 Maasai women at the frontline of a solar power revolution.” Brilliant. #OneWorld http://www.businessinsider.com/r-toting-panels-on-donkeys-maasai-women-lead-a-solar-revolution-2015-6
Ted Talk: This Is What It’s Like To Teach In North Korea
A fantastic, heartbreaking @TEDTalks by Suki Kim and her experiences and struggle with teaching undercover in North Korea. “I wanted so much to tell them the truth of their country and of the outside world, where Arab youth were turning their rotten regime inside out through the power of social media, where everyone but them was connected through the World Wide Web—which wasn’t worldwide, after all.” #OneWorld http://www.ted.com/talks/suki_kim_this_is_what_it_s_like_to_teach_in_north_korea
Is Unity Realistic Today?
Is unity realistic in our age? Social psychologist Christena Cleveland addresses unity in a multicultural society and what it means to be people of #OneWorld: “The fundamental problem is that we categorize people as ‘us’ or ‘them.’…this has devastating consequences when one group has more power than the other…What if we were all simply ‘us’?” http://qideas.org/videos/achieving-unity/
Q Ideas: On Gratitude, from Ann Voskamp
Well worth a listen and a share, on our way to #OneWorld. Fear should not control us. “Gratitude is the key to not only experiencing what communities want, an authentic, thriving joy — but is what Chesterton called the highest form of thinking…How can we alter our perspectives and be known for what we are for, instead of what we are against?” from New York Times Bestselling Author of One Thousand Gifts, Ann Voskamp. Rescues from the Single Largest Kidnapping of Women This Century
“During the siege of Mount Sinjar last August, thousands of men were brutally murdered over a matter of weeks. But amid the slaughter, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil) terrorists chose a different fate for the women of the town. Women from every house were taken hostage, with Isil fighters grabbing thousands of young girls and elderly grandmothers in the largest single kidnapping of women this century.” A lawyer named Khaleel al-Dakhi tells Olivia Goldhill why he isn't afraid to rescue women and children from the unimaginable horrors of the Islamic State. #OneWorld http://www.telegraph.co.uk/women/womens-life/11723360/Islamic-State-Meet-the-man-who-helps-kidnapped-women-escape-horrors.html
Are Your Girls #TechGirls? A Step Toward STEM Equality
What a fantastic program! Are your girls #TechGirls? Middle Eastern and North African Teens Arrive in the United States for TechGirls Exchange: “Tech-savvy teens from Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, the Palestinian Territories, and Tunisia will participate in the fourth annual TechGirls exchange program from July 21-August 12. While in the United States, they will develop the knowledge, resources, peer networks, and mentor relationships necessary to pursue higher education and careers in technology. Increasing opportunities for women and girls in the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields is an important step towards realizing greater equality for women across the world and widening the pipeline for the next generation of STEM workers.” #OneWorld #ElectrifyAfrica http://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2015/07/245079.htm

On Less-Glamorous World Disasters and How We Respond
A great piece on how we react to less glamorous world disasters. Regardless of media coverage, let’s work toward #OneWorld. “We could see this disaster coming. In fact, early-warning systems first forecast a likely emergency as early as August 2010. Non-profit organizations sounded the alarm, but at that point the situation wasn’t a very compelling news story. It wasn’t until children were dying and families were fleeing to refugee camps in mass quantities in July 2011 that the media began to talk about this disaster. By then, thousands had already died.” http://inallthings.org/what-matters-to-us/

Everyone Deserves Light: Fighting Energy Poverty in Africa
A tremendous effort for equality and opportunity. Check out this article from Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls for a look at energy poverty. Teach or have kids? This is a great piece to help them learn and discuss a small but important piece of inequality. Everyone Deserves light: Fighting Energy Poverty in Africa: “ONE’s bill, the Electrify Africa Act, was reintroduced in the House this past month by Chairman and Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Ed Royce (R-CA) and Eliot Engel (D-NY). At no (ZERO) cost to the American public, this bill would help provide electricity to 50 million Africans. It is bi-partisan and we love initiatives that connect us rather than divide us because — and when it comes to politics, this bears repeating, we are all more alike than we are different.” #OneWorld http://amysmartgirls.com/everyone-deserves-light-fighting-energy-poverty-in-africa/?hootPostID=6e99860b1760b34c0e5bf314770f10c9

Could Racism Damage 2018 World Cup?
We can do better than this. We must. #OneWorld. “Zenit St Petersburg's Brazilian striker Hulk has now said racism happens at "almost every game" in the Russian league - and that it is a genuine threat to the 2018 World Cup.” Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Toure has even gone so far as to suggest black players could boycott the Russia World Cup. "If we aren't confident at the World Cup, coming to Russia, we don't come," he said. http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/33612899
